Martavis Bryant...Did he make the right call?

Nov 30, 2015, 4:55 AM

We all know that catching the deep ball is Bryant's best skill. Nobody throws he deep ball like Watson. If Bryant would have been able to pull off staying until this season, his redshirt senior season, do you think he would have been a first rounder in this next draft? Looking back, did he make the right call? I cant decide. He was lucky to go to the Steelers. He may have gone to the Bills or something. Anyway, here is his salary.

Martavis Bryant signed a 4 year, $2,659,220 contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers, including a $439,220 signing bonus, $439,220 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $664,805. In 2015, Bryant will earn a base salary of $390,000.

A 15th pick in the first round would get a 10 million dollar contract. The last pick in the first round gets a 7 million dollar contract. Would he have been a 1st rounder?

So, looking back, did Martavis Bryant make the right call had he been able to stay and graduate etc etc? What say you?

Yes...

...Yes, each case is different. Kind of like retiring. Should I go at 55, 59.5, 62, 66 etc. In Martavis case he did what he did for his family. Not chump change for something you enjoy. And yes if he had stayed he probably would have been a 1st rounder.

Good points

Also, he is that much closer to great new contract with a large signing bonus in 2 years or so. That contract could be 50 million or something amazing. He is no Calvin Johnson, but Calvin Johnson's contract is well over 100 million. He would have been amazing to have had for Watson this year though. I would have loved to have seen Bryant and Cain on the field at the same time going deep.

Martavis made the right decision for him and his family.

He is a great success so far in the NFL. He will make millions. He was clearly ready for the league. Would his draft stock taken a hit last year with Stoudt as QB? Could he have gotten injured over the past couple seasons? Most that leave early for the draft don't work out but Bryant certainly has!

True about Stoudt, but this year he would have had DW.**

And Mike Williams got injured. Not that I'm supporting...

your case. I'm saying it could have happened to him if he stayed.

I'm not sure why everyone keeps bringing this up because he wouldn't have been eligible this year. He began in 2011 and didn't redshirt. Last year would have been his senior year.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think 2011, he went to prep school.

Nov 30, 2015, 5:11 AM

That would give him 4 more years starting in 2012.

Same situation as Lawson this year.

He went to prep school in 2010 and started his Clemson career in 2011. He wouldn't have been eligible this year.

You're right.

I was wrong. Get used to it buddy, I'm normally wrong.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Okay...scrap this thread. I was wrong about elegibility.

Nov 30, 2015, 5:36 AM

He never redshirted. I apologize.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Heck yeah he made the right call!

He would have spent most of his Sr. season catching passes from Cole Stoudt. We all know how that would have ended. He made the right decision and it paid off for him in a major way.
