In Deshaun’s defense

they traded his favorite wide receiver (Hopkins) without even telling him first.
Then they asked him to be involved in the search for a new coach, then after giving his opinion they marginalized his involvement.
He isn’t exactly being given the respect I feel he deserves in his role as star QB and team leader.
I agree, it’s best not to take complaints to the public arena, and I wish he wouldn’t do it. But I do understand his frustration.

He should never have signed a new contract. He would be in an awesome position if he had of waited for his initial contract to expire

Not really. After the Texans pick up his 5th year option then franchise tag him twice he's looking at being on the market two years earlier with significantly less money in his pocket. The guaranteed money is always the right call. This is a job after all.

look at how he responded when they actually traded Nuk to how he responded when rumors circulated that they were shopping Fuller V...Watson was reported as being a 2 on a scale of 1-10 when they traded Nuk,and being at 10 today

There is no denying Hopkins was the best talent. If he gets traded, You're going to be upset.
However...
When were rumors of trading away your 2nd best receiver (Fuller) now, don't have any 1st round picks for 2020 or 2021, or 2nd round picks for 2020 and the 2 players brought in are both 5"10 on good days (and one is old and was only good for 400 yards this year), you can see DW got heated when the idea of shopping Fuller, the only real talent left on the roster.

Never heard of a player suggesting who to hire as a coach but I guess it happens more than I thought. I agree, he has not been treated very well. Got rid of their best wide receiver and received little from the trade. Lack of good offensive lineman will get him injured. With that said, can he just do what he wants being under contract ?

I believe Watson has a legit stance here. He has begged for leadership. Playing for Clemson showed him how a program with excellent leadership and vision breeds success. He is not seeing that or getting that at Houston. They are just telling him things to make Him happy then turning around and doing the opposite. It’s clear they don’t respect him or other players in the org. Why would anyone be happy with that working environment. $100million or not you have to be happy with your job to be happy.

How about he NOT sacrifice his prime years to an organization that can't manage its way out of a clogged toilet? One that will undoubtedly shorten his career as he continues to take a brutal pounding.
This ain't college ball we're talking about. It's BUSINESS. And DeShaun works for Watson Industries. He's just sub-contracted to the Texans for the next few years - regrettably. If he can get traded to another team that has a clue and a shot - more power to him.
\\If he somehow landed at the Raiders, that sure would be fun!

weapons in Nuk and soon to be Fuller. After than he's stuck with a smattering of has beens and practice squad guys. He's 24 and still has about 5-8 good years left in the tank. Why not make a move to get on a life raft when the boat is sinking? I trust his judgement. Maybe not so much Nuks but Deshaun has a good head on his shoulders.

I will never question DW4. What he did at Clemson, and how he carries himself as a tiger was extraordinary. But hopefully he is making his decision on something like this off of the right reason. To throw out Miami of all places feels very vacation like. He has the new girl friend and every pic they post is somewhere tropical or on a boat.

Reports are he is unhappy with how the team handled the gm search. The owner met with him and apparently didnt interview who deshaun requested. He hires someone they didn’t speak about.

back it up. It was all just lip service. If he asks that you interview a guy (because you ask him who they should interview) then interview the guy to check the box. Don't act like he has legit say and not put forth the effort to make good on that promise. Deshaun is too nice of a guy and i think this is his way of punching back and making sure they know he's not going to be a pushover anymore.

There is a partner ship between the QB & the franchise
Jan 10, 2021, 1:30 PM
|
|
The franchise has been a disaster and of late have repeatedly failed to live up to promises made to Watson. He is not demanding a trade. He is saying, publicly - so the Dolphins know, that he would be willing to waive his no-trade clause for a trade with the Dolphins.
This allows the Dolphins and the Texans management to discuss a trade that might be mutually beneficial to both teams.
I, for one, hope that Watson can go to a franchise that has proven itself capable of competing for the playoffs. And the Texans have shown that they are NOT that franchise. Go DW4 !!

Nope, he’s their biggest piece of the pie $ wise & value wise. He is very smart & can trade a little money value for happiness & his long term health & ability to earn an income. Deshaun is the type of player that would be happy making a 100k because of where he came from if that was a fair price. He wants to be happy & healthy.
Theirs no loyalty on either side in the NFL, every player is a contractual worker.
If I was Miami, I’d have Tua out quickly for Deshaun really fast. Please.

For Deshaun, getting out of Texas is about being able to walk when he is 35 years old. They don't have a O-lineman that would start for any other NFL team. He has been sacked more than any QB in the league. And yet has kept his team in each game without any help on offense or having a defense.

Here’s the deal, he has enough value right now he can influence his destiny.
Would you want to keep taking the hits he is when you could be protected, win & make money for a long time.
He’s the hardest worker on the team & the best player. Worst case they keep him, best case they release him, trade him.
This isn’t making tacos....

Why don't you shut up and go to another team. There is nothing wrong with wanting to play for an organization that is competent. Many people in the media think Watson should leave. They both play very well.

He's the franchise player, he asked to be treated like an adult, they failed to keep their word. I am totally behind what he's doing. Hope he goes to a good team. O'Brian ruined the team.
His play, and his representation of the franchise has earned hime the right to be treated respectfully, he wasn't. Hope he leaves.

I don’t understand why he signed a contract extension. Houston hasn’t made the best moves over the time he’s been there. He could have waited and hit FA and made even more money on top of that he’d get to choose his new home. Hopefully it’ll all get worked out before it get too nasty.

but i do know that it's unheard of for a QB of his stature to hit the FA market after their rookie deal is up. It never happens, they always extend. There's probably a financial reason for that.

If he hadn't signed the contract, he would have been hit with the franchise tag for a couple of years. That would have put him on an annual contract still stuck in Houston for 3 more years.

The only part of an NFL contract that is guaranteed is the signing bonus. If he were to not perform they would kick him to the curb. The organization is not performing. Their management is clueless they haven't had a real gm for over a year. Obrien couldn't figure out how to get along with one of the top 2 receivers in the league and traded him away for a used up running back with no value. Personalities aside, he should have figured out a way to make that work or held out for a better trade. He overpaid for Tunsil and screwed up the drafts for the foreseeable future.
I do question why Watson signed a new contract but the fact is that NFL contracts are heavily skewed in favor of the organization. If he wants to try and force a trade that is his right and I think he is justified. I'm sure they sold him on some pie in the sky plan about how they were going to build the team but Obrien made that very difficult for the foreseeable future. Then they told him he and the players would have some input in the hiring and they did not.
They just seem to want to try and be New England south, but it remains to be seen whether the New England model is going to work well without Tom Brady. The Texans have been trying to get away with using cast off scrub receivers just like the Patriots did with Brady. But unlike New England during their run of success they have a garbage defense. Their defensive backs suck. They let DJ reader leave. It goes on and on. The management is horrid.
I say he should get out while he can. It would probably be the best move for the Texans too. They might actually be able to improve if they traded him and got some draft picks. As things stand they are not going to be able to improve for a while.

How bout you shut your mouth and quit being whiney. Both those men are professionals and know much better than you the circumstances that they need. They are representing themselves and Clemson just fine.

I have a hard time getting past my thought that I’d be cool getting paid tens of millions $$$ to throw a football.

The players are all millionaires, but NFL owners are billionaires... some of the wealthiest men in the country or even the world. Don't feel sorry for them.

How long will it take to replace someone as talented as Watson?
