He's probably tired of seeing the likes of will Swinney and others get more PT than him. He was a 4 star coming out of high school. Wish him the best.

I understand that what you mean is that Will Swinney is a better player than Chase and that's why he was targeted more often and not that Will Swinney was targeted more often than Chase because he is as good as Hunter Renfrow

He has a good point. Chase wasn’t getting on the field this year and barring catastrophe 2020 isn’t going to be much better.

I agree though, he should have gotten more PT than Sweeney. We’re just too stacked at WR.

I’ll be interested if he can make an impact somewhere else like USF.

Re: Good Luck...

Jan 21, 2020, 8:28 AM [ in reply to Re: Good Luck... ]

You might consider when the snaps occurred. I believe that Chase was on the field more with our top receivers. I would not expect him to get as many receptions per play considering he was probably the 3rd option or worse on most pass plays.

I wish him luck. Hopefully, he can shine when he gets out of the shadows of some of our other receivers.

Marcus is a 5, Venables is a 3, going by the composite which puts all 3 recruiting sites together .... Both are 4 stars per 247's site ranking... Not hard to understand.

I agreed earlier he's a 3 star.... Also agreed and showed you he is right that 247 themselves, not their composite, does have him rated as a 4 star. Can you prove that statement wrong after I circled where it shows that?? No?? Thanks for playing.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Good Luck...

Jan 20, 2020, 9:21 PM

I can see you still aren't used to how to discuss star ratings. Let me help...

There is a difference between saying he's a 247 4 star and saying he's a composite 4 star. Saying Jake is rated as a 4 star is not incorrect...247's site rankings do indeed show him as a 4 star. So someone or any media calling him a 4 star would be correct as long as they mention "per 247". If talking composite, it changes. Both ways are correct, depending the level you are talking.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Good Luck...

Jan 20, 2020, 9:26 PM

Like I said whatever fits your narrative.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Good Luck...

Jan 20, 2020, 9:34 PM

Whoa trying to fit a narrative? That's how the media even does it. I showed a link earlier that the headline states "4 star Jake Venables"... Why does it State that? Because they are referencing 247's site rating, which does show him as a 4 star. YOU said "No I’m still seeing 3 star with 247"... No, you see 3 star with the composite....but you said "with 247"... So you would be incorrect. He's 4 star, per 247. He's 3 per Rivals, ESPN, and the combined composite... But not "with 247". ??

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Good Luck...

Jan 20, 2020, 9:45 PM

Is the composite not on 247. Am I missing something.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Good Luck...

Jan 20, 2020, 10:18 PM

The composite is a 247 hosted combined rating.... It's not their actual rating. Their rating... The "with 247" rating, done by 247 alone, is the other one. So no, he wasn't rated 3 star by 247. He was rated 4 star by them, and the composite is made 3 star only by combining in not other 247 ratings, but Rivals and ESPN's...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Good Luck...

Jan 21, 2020, 8:39 AM [ in reply to Re: Good Luck... ]

Yes you are. For 247 there are two indexes. One is their own rating similar to Rivals and ESPN. The other is the Composite Index. It is not the 247 rating, but the composite ranking of ESPN, Rivals, and its own ranking. I don't know if they use others as well, but composite ranking basically gives an average ranking.

I've felt like this was coming for a while. I wish Chase the best of luck. Maybe there is a spot with Jeff Scott for him. I would now def like to see us take a 3rd WR in this class now, though, for depth purposes. I hope Powell returns or our depth is going to be hurting. I think Powell has a chance for a lot of snaps next year with Higgins and Overton gone, freeing some spots in the rotation.

This gives us WR for the next two years, unless we want depth at another position. I believe he will play for USF.

I always love Chase to but he is still developing, he should stay. As he develops he’ll will get in the lineup like Chad Smith. I always trust Dabo, he’s a good man(not perfect) but he loves his players as his own. Dabo doesn’t play guys who don’t work to the standard of best until they play the best they can.

Re: TNET: Clemson WR entering transfer portal

Jan 21, 2020, 5:04 AM

I think it’s sad that Clemson’s program has reached elite status but yet we fans still seem to find petty or negative things to bring up about Dabo or the other coaches, or the overall program. We have played for the NC 4 times in the last 5 years. That is Historical in college football. We are the team of the decade. As a sports fan we should be celebrating everyday because we are part of Greatness CLEMSON University. Let’s not forget we broke the 59 year old streak of losing to NC in Chapel Hill.

I am referring to the transfer portal and the lose of some of our players (a very bad rule for college athletics). A 4 star WR is entering the portal most likely due to playing time. To me stars are not that important. Just ask Hunter Renfrow, Adam Humphries, Keith Adams and other players not rank highly by recruiting services. Yet they were able to be highly successful.

Why are we as fans worrying about a program that recruited the #1 class for 2020. Yet that does not guarantee continued success unless we stay the coarse.

Most players if not all players saw some amount of playing time during the regular season. Not every player would have that opportunity on an Elite D-1 team like Clemson. Dabo’s job is stressful enough without being called because 1 player maybe received more playing time over another.

I am “All In” and believe Dabo and his staff are more qualified than me to make decisions regarding Clemson’s football program.

I am grateful to be a part of CLEMSON while they are going through the best of times in the history of Tiger Football.

May 2020 be a great year for CLEMSON Athletics. Go Tigers!

Re: TNET: Clemson WR entering transfer portal

Jan 21, 2020, 7:04 AM

I won't get into the reasons for Chase, but I truly like this guy. I thought he was an awesome receiver who typically made the catches that were thrown his way. And the weird thing was, he was typically OPEN. How he managed to separate might be due to various reasons, and I don't know them, but IMO he seemed to separate and become a good target.

Whatever reasons he has for leaving, I wish him the absolute best. The guy deserves way more than he has received, but CLEMSON is just too loaded at WR. When you have great QB's like CLEMSON has, great receivers want to play here and make great plays. It just doesn't always work out. I never thought CLEMSON would have this problem, but it has become obvious in recent years.

Re: TNET: Clemson WR entering transfer portal

Jan 21, 2020, 8:37 AM

I don't know Tiger fans feelings on this transfer portal thingy but, I see it as something that the NCAA has done without any thought of the long run of how this could eventually destroy the way we see college FB from the day the NCAA implemented such a rule just to show that their best interest is for the student athlete that I believe is just total BS. And I say that it's total BS is bc if their concern was for the student athlete, they would have closed the door on OVER RECRUITING and taking away athletic scholarships before they even considered opening up a back door allowing student athletes to give their scholarship back allowing them to just walk away from their commitment to the schools and the athletic programs bc they wasn't a starter and didn't get what they wanted in the snap count for the season. To me personally, the transfer portal is counteractive in a bad way for the student athlete and to the schools that are giving these athletic scholarships bc student athletes don't have to fully commit bc they can walk away from their commitment as soon as they can find another program to pay for their education without being pressured to fully commit to being the very best they can be.

It just seems that over recruiting and taking these athletic scholarships back from these kids would have been fixed before opening another door allowing student athletes to walk away from their commitment to the school. Both are bad, over recruiting and taking back scholarships is bad for the student athlete bc there wasn't a solid commitment to the athlete, and the transfer portal is bad for the sports programs bc both are allowed to turn their backs on their commitments to each other.

The NCAA really dropped the ball with this issue by not fixing the over recruiting and taking back scholarships. And to make the taking of scholarships issue worse, they open another door called the transfer portal allowing the student athletes to give scholarships back, and this leads to neither knowing anything about commitment to each other. And this can't be a good thing to be teaching the student athlete at such a young age, and that is commitment really means nothing, it's just a word that educated adults use that really means nothing!!!
