Front Page Story: Boyd wants to "take over completely"

Jul 14, 2013, 1:21 PM

Boyd wants to "take over completely"

An early-morning conversation with an NFL player turns into a comparison of the leadership qualities of Peyton Manning and Tajh Boyd, bringing to mind a conversation with Boyd this past spring in which he said that he wants to be the leader of the entire team, not just the offense. Full Story »

Boyd has an overall outlook that is rare among young people!***

It's rare for a young person with that attitude...

to get the attention Boyd gets. I think the young folks are fine it's just that the media doesn't accentuate "fine," it usually focuses on the bad eggs.

I can tell you from experience Boyd is a heck of a leader

Saw him and a bunch of players on campus last semester near Vickery. I couldn't make out too much of the conversation, but I think they were all asking Boyd for advice on what they should do for their workouts that day or something. Boyd was sort of giving them a run down of the schedule and telling them what they needed to do. I'm telling you, I wouldn't want any other quarterback at the helm than this guy! What a class act and a great leader!

Gotta luv how Boyd is all about it!!!!! Hopefully he keeps moving in the right direction, and helps guide the team to a year of positive and rewarding experiences.

It sounds to me like:

1. Tajh Boyd has an unusual awareness of his situation and opportunity. At that age, I had little such awareness.

2. Payton Manning is maybe not the nicest guy in the locker room (hard worker; nice....maybe not so much.)

compare Tajh to somebody like Johnny Football

Jul 15, 2013, 1:39 PM

and you really appreciate Tajh's maturity.

Boyd is a real field general. Very mature and tactical.*

How do you keep Gamecocks out of your yard?
• Put up goal posts
What does a Gamecock grad call a Clemson Tiger grad in 2 years?
• Boss

Impressive! Good leadership is a necessity

if the team wants to take that next step. I remember in 1981, I was told that Jeff Davis and Jeff Bryant were the team enforcers/leaders.

To be a leader on the field? Play smart and hard every snap

Don't get discouraged. Adjust and do it better the next play. Rally your teammates by example.
