Forde's tale of the tape

Jan 13, 2020, 11:14 AM

Pat Forde put together a "tale of the tape" for the game tonight, listing a couple dozen comparisons between CU and LSU. I like Pat Forde's writing generally, but in this case, he's got me scratching my head, and there's no comment feature attached to his article.

1) His "sketchy political benefactor" for LSU was Huey Long; for Clemson it's John C. Calhoun. Clemson comes out big on the plus side there. Whatever you think of JCC, he weren't no Huey Long. But Forde didn't do his research. Wouldn't have been hard to find the Ben Tillman issue. Whiff.

2) His "favorite homer" for LSU is James Carville. For Clemson, it's "Jordan." I'll go ahead and plead ignorance. Who's he referring to?

3) For campus feature, he puts for Clemson, "livestock." I guess technically that's a feature, though I've never encountered livestock, ever, in my campus crossings. Seems it's never dawned on him that Clemson's distinctive feature is Lake Hartwell. Maybe he's only been to night games there. Whiff.

But he picked Clemson, so all is forgiven.

The cow pastures were, until the mid to late 70's, Where the golf course is now by Perimeter Road. That was back when the married student housing was Quonset huts without A/C.

I wondered about that, but HJ keeps a pretty low profile.

Has he never heard of Ben Tillman? Much more sketchy than JCC, IMO.
Have you ever had Clemson Ice Cream or Clemson Bleu Cheese?

I have had copious amounts of Clemson ice cream and blue cheese, but it seemed like he was going for visual features (the LSU feature was spanish moss). That's why I suggested Hartwell.

Maybe you got it, but my point was those are DAIRY products

Jan 13, 2020, 12:36 PM

We're an AG school (at least at our roots), and I have seen plenty of dairy cattle, not necessarily in the Ampitheatre, but on campus.

Anyway, I agree that Hartwell would be a more desirable and easily recognized physical feature...that or the Blue Ridge...
