It shows how low our country has fallen.

Nov 7, 2012, 7:53 AM

We have abandoned every principle of the founding fathers and embraced the evils of socialism. It's a sad, sad day. We may have written our nation's epitaph last night.

Re: It shows how low our country has fallen.

Nov 7, 2012, 8:11 AM

If Obama is a socialist, our founding fathers were socialists. Get educated.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I have three Master's degrees and a Doctorate

Nov 7, 2012, 8:32 AM

You are the one who needs a history lesson. Our Founding Fathers were adamantly opposed to the kind of socialist principles espoused by Obama and his gang of Marxists. In fact, in the Federalist papers the founders repeatedly point out that if these kinds of policies prevail, the nation is doomed.

Re: I have three Master's degrees and a Doctorate

Nov 7, 2012, 8:59 AM

You are absolutely correct, and the saddest thing of all to me is how many Americans don't get it, but they think they do. We took a big step away from freedom 4 years ago, and we took an even bigger one yesterday. We now are practicing a type of "Robin Hood" agenda where the govt. takes from those who will and gives to those who won't. Shortly those who won't will be the majority, and the ones who will will not be able to keep up with and satisfy the wants of the won'ts.

Out of curiosity, are those degrees from the areas

Nov 7, 2012, 9:31 AM [ in reply to I have three Master's degrees and a Doctorate ]

of the sciences/engineering or economics? Just curious. I went through your post history and I'm not really seeing the critical thinking skills indicative of someone w/ that level of education. Just more hyperbole and regurgitated Republican talking point mumbo jumbo. Very little substantive debate. If you really believe Romney/Ryan were going to come into office and gut entitlements and that it would somehow magically lift us out of this mess then you are delusional. Look at the numbers. Safety net programs are the smallest percentage of the budget after the interest on the debt. When you trivialize the debate into "Republicans = less entitlements, fiscal responsibility and Democrats = big government, socialism" you are being intellectually dishonest. It may have used to be that way, but not any more. Modern Republicans have proven they are no more fiscally responsible than the Democrats. Bush policies are the primary cause of the massive debt. Maybe if Romney and Ryan had spent less time pandering to the neocon, psyco-religious base and more time working on their plan for economy maybe they would have had a chance. Instead of offering solutions, they simply offered an alternative. Their proposed savings in entitlements reform and cuts with no accompanying increases in revenue were not rooted in sound economic policy. The math didn't add up. Trickle down economics don't work and the people have caught on. Lower tax rates for the middle class, small businesses while making the top earners and mega-corps pay more is the recipe for success. Call it wealth redistribution if you want, it's necessary. Romney's/Bush taxation policies would have only furthered the income disparity between top-earners and the middle class.

On a side note, both my parents are social workers and I recently accompanied one of their co-worker on a visit to family in need. There were Pizza Hut boxes stacked 10 high on the floor. Roaches running rampart throughout the apartment. 4 of her kids slept in one room. It was revolting and very sad. I'm sure there are plenty of stories from the other side of the spectrum; people abusing the entitlements. No one from either side wants people freeloading off the government. We can all agree that certain checks and procedures should be in place to prevent abuse. Let's not pretend like a lot of these people are living high on the hog, at least, not this lady. Some people need help. You can't just cast these people off onto the street unless you want societal chaos. Her kids already got dealt a terrible hand. No gov. assistance would just make it that much worse.

Actually

Nov 9, 2012, 5:32 PM

I have a Master's degree in Industrial Management with an emphasis in quantitative analysis. My graduate and undergraduate course work included extensive study in economics and econometrics. And I can tell you authoritatively that "trickle down economics" introduced by Reagan in the 80's did work. Coupled with a responsible monetary policy, it was responsible for the longest period of economic expansion ever experienced to that point. Second, my objections to the Obama administration go far beyond entitlements. The truth is that in order to pay for his spending plans (yes his, which are 14 times larger than Bush's spending spree) he will not be able to stop with the super rich. Even if you confiscated everything the rich have, it would not be enough. Obama is coming for the middle class. He has already begun. His health care plan alone will cost the middle class far more than they pay now. Finally, my other two degrees are in Divinity and Theology. My current work involves, among other things, providing food, clothing and emergency help to the poorest of the poor. I work with addicts and the abused every day. The difference between you and me is that I understand the truth about poverty. Poverty has no causes. You can do nothing and have all the poverty you want. Only wealth has causes. And the Obama administration has no idea what causes wealth.

I'm assuming that remark was sarcastic! He was voted the worst President in our history by a group of historians gathered by the HISTORY CHANNEL. And I know he's the worst I remember in my lifetime and the that goes back to Ike.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well, I'm quite sure the History Channel

Nov 9, 2012, 5:36 PM

is the difinitive expert on the quality of presidents. Actually, the worst president in my lifetime was Jimmy Carter. Or don't you remember double digit unemployment, double digit interest rates, and double digit inflation, all at the same time! And by the way, I go back as far as Kennedy.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Well, I'm quite sure the History Channel

Nov 15, 2012, 4:50 PM

Carter??? Funny the Federal Department of Labor lists Carter's unemployment average for 4 years at 6.7 % which is FAR LOWER than Bush II. I also must have missed an attack on the US that killed thousands of people in New York under Carter. Or a VietNam like war that is going on interminably, and was war-profiteered by Carter's friends and Vice President. We actually double-digit inflation under Bush II when the gas prices skyrocketed in 2008, and our dollar value dropped worldwide against other currencies way earlier than that. Oh and I missed him pushing the greatest attack on American liberty in history called the "Patriot Act" in the seventies, Carter must have snuck that one by us.
