Bad sign. The fix is in. Can beat Bama. Can't beat the cash-lined pockets of the house.***

My thoughts exactly. If it isn't hard enough to beat 'Bama, now we have to beat The Fix too. I can't wait to see the officiating now. I'm not normally a conspiracy theorist, but we are talking MILLIONS of dollars here.

So we need to score ~ 100 points to earn 35 in order to win this thing? How many TD's will be called back? How many fake PI calls will we get called on us? How many false starts? It's gonna be nasty. I hope Dabo & coaches have the energy to beat everyone else tonight.

The easiest call to make will be holding on the offense.

Odd. If that much of the money is on Clemson they should
Jan 9, 2017, 12:57 PM

move the line. I guess it's possible that they are comfortable with it because they feel Bama will win, but that's not usually how Vegas does business.

Wouldn't it be in Vegas' best interest to not reveal where the money is being bet? How would the public know if this information true?
Obviously, the sports betting industry must have something to gain by putting this information out, but I'm just not sure what.

Vegas doesn't care one way or the other.

Vegas is just a broker that takes a commission for offering two sides of an argument. They don't care if the line is Alabama and 50 points, or Clemson and 50 points. They aren't going to lose their own money because their own money isn't involved.

There are 2 Vegases - the brokers and the real players

The guys who set the line do not care but the real players that drop millions on game do care and those are the guys that might try and influence and ref or two.

Not exactly. Let's say the money was split 50/50 between Bama and Clemson bets. It then wouldn't matter who won because Vegas gets their juice and can use the losing bets to pay the winners. However, when the money is heavily on one side like it is right now with Clemson, where does the money come from to pay everyone who picked Clemson? The juice is too small to make up for all that, so the answer is that it comes from the house. Hence the reason that the article suggests that Vegas is pulling hard for Bama. They typically move the line to keep the money balanced to prevent this which makes it strange that they haven't.

Although moving from 7(earlier) to 6.5 is a pretty big jump in betting terms. That 1/2 point off a 3, 7 or 10 pt line is huge in bettors eyes. But yes i am surprised if this is all true it doesnt come down to 4 or so. Smart money comes in late typically, unless the line is flat out wrong which at 7 it may have been. The osu line had a lot of late movement.

They said 70% of the bets were on the Tigers, not 70% of the money. Could be a few much larger bets on Bama to even out money and not move the line. Just guessing.

Vegas owns the outcome. Like last year.

Last year, the refs were careful to call anything a TD for us since that is hard to overturn. But Bama benefited with a TD that was non viewable that the refs called immediately. Take that one away from bama and give us the one we earned. Were up by 2 TDs. Give us back the time they shaved off the clock in the whole 2nd quarter by starting the clock up after only 1 second of going out of bounds. BEFORE the ball was even put back on the mark or teams lined up they had restarted the clock. When they say we ran out of time. IT IS LITERAL! Im a lifelong horse racing fan (dont bet) but on the big days when a big horse is running, the betters hate it cause when the fav wins they dont get nothing. BUt if they can get the longshot across that line first they make a pile! Last year we were the ones undefeated and the fav to win it. They made a pile of money when bama won. Remember the outrage in vegas when the spread wasn't to their liking! My point right there. They wanted their cake and to eat it too. GREEDY lil minions! My husband played football all his life from a 7 yr old boy. Had scholarship offers from Danny Ford, and Ivy schools. The best in his position in the state. He even got a walk on offer for the Carolina panthers. He is quick to tell you it is almost impossible to win when the Refs are against you. Case in point. The games this year that we had no flags first quarters. but then when we get into scoring range that would put away those close teams, all of a sudden they would throw flag after flag to keep us behind that 50 yard range of kicking a FG. Not just one game but several. They did NOT want us in the playoffs, nor did they want us in the Natty again. This team has God behind it and hopefully they will behave themselves (grabbing body parts)!

That is very odd for them to come out and say that. Was thinking of putting some money on Clemson to win straight up. Haven't used an offshore online betting site in a while. Used to use 5dimes. For you gamblers out there which site(s) do you prefer?
+1 to all that answer
Thanks!

That headline is not accurate.

On average, you'd expect about half the people who placed straight bets in Vegas to have picked Clemson. Also the casino sportbooks get paid either way, so they shouldn't care. Maybe the initial oddsmakers are pulling hard for Alabama, but Vegas as a whole is probably about split down the middle or doesn't care one way or the other.

That is how it is supposed to work but they didn't do it for Ohio State and got hammered.
It appears they are doubling down

The fact that Vegas won't move the line despite there being so much money on Clemson is troubling to me.

the line should be about 3 to get the money right. Very troubling that they've encouraged one-sided betting
