Runnernet PSA

May 17, 2017, 1:38 PM

Saucony Freedom iso is AWESOME! Get a pair if you love your feet and run daily.

Hoka Clifton 2 - great shoe for middle distance and so much response your knees and hips will thank you. 10-15 miles.

Hoka Clayton - great shoe for long distance...the do not have as much response, but your foot is more stable, thus keeping your stride and cadence in check.

Brooks - Ghost9 - phenomenal everyday running shoe
Brooks - Cascadia - a trail shoe that compares to no other. I ride MTB single track with this shoe.

Mizuno - meh - no real changes in years
Asics - more and more meh
New Balance - fresh foam has too much support mid-foot for me, feels like a flat metal bar on my arch.

Thanks for reading this much anticipated running shoe review.

Still LOL'ing at Greenr saying Hoka is JNCO of run shoes. Just LOL. Thats a good one.

Pawski pick for this running season:

######, my response got all screwy.

Lets try again...

Usually I like and get your sarcasm, but I feel as if you are being seriously serious here.

Hopefully you are not serious as Hoka is quickly becoming a #2 shoe brand in a ton of run specialty shops. Emo kids cannot afford $180 shoes.

I cannot do the huge sole. They look like Reebok shapeups

or some sketchers from the late 90s. EVERYONE says they run great, feel great, etc. I'm just not sure I can stomach spending $150 to look even more like a ruhtard.

Also, your OP talks about like $500+ worth of shoes. Do you work for a retailer, or do you hate money?

Neither. Just in the bidness.

Edit: and have access. Right now I switch between, Freedom iso (new), Adidas Energy Boost (on its way out although I love) and Hoka Clifton 2's. I do have a pair of Claytons, but havent worn the pair I have here. Will just wait until I wear out the Clifton's.

Do you even pronate?

May 17, 2017, 1:44 PM

It appears as though you don't. I need new shoes and I am a mild pronater therefore all the good looking shoes don't really work for me. I can go to D!ck's and get a nice pair of black or red Brooks Ravennas. I have 485 miles on some Brooks Pure Project shoes, it is time for a new pair.

ALso, Cascadias are the chit. Best shoes ever. I can wear neutrals if I don't do it every day, so Cascadia works for me.

Just bought a pair of Hoka Arahi a few minutes ago

At my weight (223 this morning), my flat feet appreciate the cushioning. They do feel more stable than some of the other models, since you're like 8" off the ground with all that cushion...

Everyone is different, but for me it's 1) Altra Provision -

May 17, 2017, 2:28 PM

my go-to daily trainer. Fit my feet best of any shoe. Have kept me injury-free. Weirdly, version 3.0 fits quite a bit differently than version 2.5, but still a great shoe. For my morning runs.

Adidas Supernova Sequence - Adidas were the first on the market with the boost technology and are still the best, IMO. These are my marathon/long run shoes.

Mizuno Wave inspire - my favorite for speed. Generous support when heel striking (even though you shouldn't). Lightweight yet supportive. Oldsters like me can't wear flats & such.

I wear Asics as recovery shoes, but I don't like running in them.

Wow, I have been looking at Altras and these might be the

ones I go with. Also, Adidas Supernova Sequence are awesome shoes, really enjoyed them. As for Mizuno, my weird right heel tears them up every time I buy some. It doesn't matter what model, Mizuno and New Balance are ripped apart at the back of the right shoe by the time I hit 150 miles.

2024 purple level memberringofhonor-greenr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I went through 2 pairs of version 2.5 I liked them so much.

May 17, 2017, 2:36 PM

Only down side for me is not enough cushion for really long runs.

The zero drop takes some getting used to if you have never run in a zero drop show before, but I love them.

Highly recommended.
