Do you honestly believe Oklahoma or OSU could beat UGA?

Dec 1, 2018, 10:10 PM

Based on what I saw today, I don’t.

I don’t like it, and I’m an 8-team advocate, but...

If UGA played Oklahoma or OSU today, they would have SMOKED THEM.

There is still some football left, we’ll see what OSU does.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Why not? UGA lost to LSU.***

Re: Why not? UGA lost to LSU.***

Dec 1, 2018, 10:14 PM

Every single team has a fluke game. The vast majority lose that game. Georgia’s was against LSU.

Georgia would beat OSU or Oklahoma by 2 touchdowns, but it doesn’t matter. They had their shot against Bama and lost. Someone else’s turn. Bring on Okie for Bama and the Irish for us.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You have no reason to be confident that UGA would beat

either OSU or Oklahoma.

I watched them play all season. That’s my reasoning,

Ohhh....the infamous "eye test"!!

Dec 1, 2018, 10:49 PM

Only time the eye test means chitt is comparing two teams playing each other!

Dec 1, 2018, 10:27 PM [ in reply to Re: Why not? UGA lost to LSU.*** ]

Doesn’t matter. We don’t need two loss teams getting a shot at the national title. College football has always demanded that you continue to win over the course of the season. It almost demands perfection from a win loss standpoint. Two loss teams don’t deserve to play for the championship. And why do we need to go to eight teams? The best team has won it all every year since the playoff started. They may not get all four spots correct but the goal is to produce an undisputed national champion and that’s been done every year. And no UCF would not have been able to beat Bama last year. Everybody knows that whether they want to admit it or not.

Nope. Neither could Notre Dame.

Dec 1, 2018, 10:12 PM

they'd just roll over Kyler Murray? Seems doubtful.

Dec 1, 2018, 10:14 PM

Unfortunately Kyler Murray doesn’t play defense and I think OU gets beat because their defense is atrocious.

Kyler Murray is legit.

Re: They gave up a 21 point comeback to Hurts and you think

Dec 1, 2018, 11:12 PM

I am of the opinion, much like cowherd, that OU’s defense is not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. The big 12 has always been known for its offenses much like the sec for defense. Look back over the last 10 years no matter which big 12 team plays they almost always put up more than 30 on an sec defense. OU could hang with Georgia I think but a two loss team does not deserve it.

No, I’m just a random guy.

But it’s about who the committee thinks are the 4 best teams...so it is about what they think did/could happen.

What should it be about? Stats say UGA would beat either team. And so does on field “eye test”...as much as I hate that term. Their metrics are better, their perception is better, and they proved it today.

4 best teams...

I don’t want two SEC teams in, but it’s gonna be a tough argument...one I don’t think most can defend if they’re honest.

I think people forget teams get up for certain games. You think UGA hadn’t sat on that terrible loss a year ago and wanted revenge? Similar to Bama in semis last year... to answer you, yes, I think both Oklahoma and Ohio State could beat UGA. I also think UGA could beat both of them. It’s why you play the game... don’t award UGA a free pass for losing.

Dec 1, 2018, 10:17 PM

how great would a game in mid December be if they had a play in game.

8 teams is too many.

UGa would have rolled OU and tOSU, but they faced Bama.

If UGa makes it in the committee will need to find a way to move ND to the 4 spot. Nobody wants to see Bama play UGa in the first round. A UGa Clemson round would be huge

Re: Do you honestly believe Oklahoma or OSU could beat UGA?

Dec 1, 2018, 10:24 PM

Probably not but that's not how it works.
Wins and losses matter unless you're UCF.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don’t think that is a question the committee should be asking.

Dec 1, 2018, 10:24 PM

Georgia has 2 losses and no conference championship. I don’t believe they should be considered for the top 4 when there are three undefeated teams (two of those with conference titles) and two one loss teams (both with conference titles).

I know this gets back to the resume vs. eye test debate, but at some point, resume has to matter.

If Georgia gets into the playoffs this year, something is very wrong with the system.

I’ve felt less sure about it every year up until now.

But if it’s the four best teams, this year, I’m not sure Oklahoma or OSU deserve it.
