Just switched to Youtube TV.

Its greatness.

Had dtvnow in the past. Been using psvue for a good while.

Apr 30, 2019, 8:18 PM

Considering changing to youtubetv to check it out. They added some channels lately that my Wife likes to watch. Like the user interface better with psvue as well as the cloud dvr. Better that dtvnow or sling.

I have been trying to ‘divorce’ myself from these crooks since January. I finally had to stop payments on the checks they were withdrawing . ATandT took over Direct tv a few months ago. What a dumb move. Smart TVs will eventually put them out of business if they play their cards right.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

AT&T bought Direct TV a LONG time ago

Apr 30, 2019, 9:10 PM

I dunno how a smart TV will put any 1 out of business. DO tell?

Maybe the cellular carriers, but they are just as bad.

Because of streaming services, DirectTV and DISH Network will be competing for an increasingly shrinking market. Their viability will be limited to people in remote areas that can't get high speed internet. I just dropped DISH in favor of YouTube TV. My total bill for internet + YT TV is less than my previous DISH bill.

Apr 30, 2019, 9:23 PM

I had directv from 1998 till December of 2018. The supersize credits were going off and my bill was going up $25 in January, $45 in February, for a total of $200.00 by April 7th. I said Cancel which normally would get me the incentives tacked back on but it did not this time. So I ordered YouTube-TV which was $40. and it just added some channels and is $50.00 now. Unlimited DVR and all the channels I watch anyway. I am very happy and DTV also has DirectV Now and they just went up on prices and took away over 10 channels and they lost more customers. You can get additional information at Cord Cutters .COM Good Luck! I like the savings and I knew when ATT bought DTV it was screwed. Also ATT acknowledged that when a Sat goes out they are not launching anymore. Thats JMO

it isn't direct TV per say , it is the networks

Apr 30, 2019, 9:27 PM

they charge for their channel, Direct TV charges you.

Anyway as i posted many times, net neutrality will bust the streaming bubble.

Hopefully 5G will help level things

Net neutrality was struck down by the FCC in Dec 2017. What are you referring to?

I’ve had DirectvNow, Sling, and YouTube TV. YouTube is by far the best value. The unlimited DVR absolutely rocks, you get all your local channels, and all the sports channels. Unsure what will happen with the new ACC Network. I’m sure they will eventually add it.

Has anyone on here heard of or used Plex? It is not a streaming service, but a personal media server. You can put all of your movies on a hard drive (tv shows, music, Clemson games) and watch it with your streaming box- Roku, Fire Stick, Smart TV, Apple TV, etc) It is absolutely awesome. You can also share your library to friends and if they have one they can share with you. It makes DVDs and BluRays obsolete.

Well, I just canceled DirecTV, after my 12 months @ $31

May 1, 2019, 7:00 PM [ in reply to They lost 1 million customers 4th QTR. I was one of them. ]

ran out, and the best they would come up with was 12 months @ $56. Wouldn't give me a $300 Visa card or NFL Sunday Ticket this time, so I told them to cancel. I guess I'll be getting a phone call within a day or two! We'll see!

Re: Direct tv now sent email going up 10 per month

Apr 30, 2019, 9:49 PM

I called to cancel my service & they offered me a special rate of $35/month for 2 years. Obviously I agreed. I’m still ticked because I had been paying $130/month for a while. I’m not sure how they offered that to me but I didn’t call to ask for another rate or plan, just to cancel & they had a customer specialist talk to me.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I have had Direct TV for $31/month for the past year.

May 1, 2019, 1:22 AM

I had never let mine get above about $70 per month, then when they jacked it to $95 per month last year, I called and canceled. They called me the next day, begging me to come back, and when they finally got down to $31 per month, for 12 months, I signed back up. But last fall, I also signed up for YouTube Live TV, and I really like it better, so I am getting ready to drop DTV, unless they go even lower!

I mostly watch on my laptop anyway, and YouTube Live has a great interface. I can jump instantly from one channel to another, sort the channels in any order I like, and even preview channels without even going to them! I can even open up three separate browser windows, if I prefer, and have three channels running simultaneously!

That’s how it works, 100% You just call very calmly and say I’m done. They don’t know what else to do than beg with better rates. If you call pissedoff, they react to emotion with disdain and won’t help you. Keep it calm and stay on the line. They are trained just like UPS and FEDEX to try and suck every penny out of you until you call them on it. It is what it is.

I had YouTube tv liked it a lot. But switch to Hulu once I found out they will pick up ACC Network. At that point the decision was obvious Hulu tv. Its $5 cheaper then YouTube tv as well

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Do you really think YouTube won't have ACCN, come August??

May 1, 2019, 6:13 AM

I'm betting they will, and will stick with YouTube until then. Very simple to switch in a couple minutes, if I have to.

Re: Direct tv now sent email going up 10 per month

Apr 30, 2019, 10:53 PM

My DirecTV bill is $12 a month when it's supposed to be $110.

Here's the trick:
-call 1800-Directv
-Give your account info/phone number
-At the "please tell us what you're calling about" prompt, say, "cancel service" ... You may then have to say you aren't moving
-Eventually, you'll get to a customer service agent in the loyalty department. Tell him you are probably going to cancel because live streaming via [insert Hulu, Sling, AppleTV, etc here] is only $20 a month.
-they'll try to get your bill down... Don't let them reduce your line up... Eventually they'll get you a $50+/month off for a year. Don't take anything less than that.
-In a year, call back and do it again. I'm going on 2 1/2 years strong.

Did you get the $300 Visa card also? That was one of the

perks I got last year, for not canceling. Also got free NFL Sunday Ticket, which wouldn't have interested me except, I was able to watch all of the Houston Texans games.

Switched to Hulu live this year. Everything is fine except I am on couple second delay. I live in Chicago and my dad is in CA so we usually text during the football games. That was easier when we were both on DirecTV. Picture and sound quality are great though.

I had directv for about a year and hated it. Slow processor, too many junk channels, just terrible.
I’m back to Comcast which ain’t cheap but it’s the Cadillac of cable and satellite imo

Re: Direct tv now sent email going up 10 per month

May 1, 2019, 8:11 PM

I signed up for directv Now when it first launched and received a new Apple TV. I complained about them raising rates and losing my current package (100 channels for $40) and they said I’m grandfathered in. If they keep trying to raise prices I’ll be trying out another streaming service. All else considered I’m a big fan of the service at the current price. Plus I have ATT mobile so I can watch live TV anywhere on my phone (good for commuting) without eating any data.
