Clemson defensive stats...

Oct 26, 2014, 5:06 PM

Clemson is now 3rd in the country in total defense. 7th in the country against the pass and 11th against the run. Tigers also lead the nation in 3rd conversion percentage. How bout that Tiger D! Does this defense bring back shades of the 80's or what?!

The defense has arrived. The offense is on a later train and will show up in few weeks.

Y'all save a spot ... November is going to be awesome!

Looking at all of those high national rankings, and its clear that this is one of the best defenses in college football over the past few years. It's rare that a defense is ranked among the best in the nation in nearly every category. The only statistics I didn't include were fumbles recovered and interceptions.

It really makes you wish we could omit that 4th quarter down in Athens. That one quarter of football is keeping our defense from being ranked even higher. Since the end of the Georgia game we are 4th in scoring defense, 1st in total defense, and 2nd in run defense. We have only allowed 2.0 yards per carry since the Georgia game. It's been an incredible stretch. We've have been stellar the entire time since that first game except for some bad pass defense in the 2nd half against UNC. If only we could somehow erase the 4th quarters of the UGA and UNC games, our defense's numbers would be at historic levels in the offensive era of the last 25 years.

We are also 4th in the nation in penalties per game.

Interesting offensive stats

Oct 26, 2014, 6:19 PM [ in reply to Here's a bigger list of our defensive stats ]

Going into last nights game we were actually 5th in turnovers, 7th in fumbles, and 21st in interceptions thrown.

Even after the terrible performance of the offense over the past 3 games and during the 2nd half against Georgia, we are still ranked in the top half of all teams in total offense at 53rd. We are still 23rd in passing offense to go with our 94th ranked rush offense.

I'm not trying to sugarcoat the dismal performance of the offense over the past 3 weeks. Instead, I wanted to show that despite the past 3 games, there is still hope considering where our offense was with Deshaun Watson. As long as his hand heals and he returns to form, we will just fine after hopefully only one more game of stagnant offense.
