Bringing Home The Hardware (pics)

Jan 11, 2017, 7:35 PM

Believe it or not, Clemson brought home an impressive 9 trophies this season. Guess we’ll just have to keep them in that sweet new Football Operations Facility. ?

B0PU9fGCAAAxcmi

O'Rourke–McFadden Trophy - Created in 2008 by the Boston College Gridiron Club in order to honor the tradition at Clemson and Boston College to honor the legacy of Charlie O'Rourke and Banks McFadden, who played during the leather helmet era. The club plans to make this an annual presentation.

ACC Divisional Champions Trophy – Given annually to the winners of the Atlantic and Coastal Division Champions (sorry, could not find an good Atlantic Division Championship Trophy)

Palmetto-Bowl-Perpetual-Trophy

Palmetto Bowl State Championship Trophy - The newly redesigned Palmetto Bowl Trophy is given annually to the winner of the in-state rivalry between the Clemson Tigers and the South Carolina Gamecocks.

ACC Championship Game Trophy – Given annually to the winner of the ACC Championship Game, a matchup of the ACC Atlantic and Coastal Division Champions

Fiesta Bowl Trophy – Given annually to the winner of the Fiesta Bowl. If you haven’t read about this trophy, you should:

The base floor has an inlay compass with the four cardinal directions spot lit, signifying the path the players take in the game and in life. Hand carved sterling silver linemen are the backbone of the team supporting the trophy and the sterling silver players at the top are guarding the ball. The diamond-encrusted football is fully removable from the trophy and has an internal power source that keeps the football illuminated even when removed.

The dome is a lotus flower which symbolizes the purity, strength, power, and heart of the victors. Inscribed in a golden curtain below the dome is the ancient Greek word "Nivkh" - The Goddess of Victory.

The center column is lapis with layers of carved gold depicting an Arizona sunset. The trophy is internally lit with LED illumination through the landscape, dome, Fiesta Bowl logo, and the diamonds.

This trophy was created by 12 craftsmen and celebrates the athlete's remarkable dedication and pursuit of personal best and attaining championship status.

Worth an estimated $1.5 million dollars.

MacArthur Bowl - The MacArthur Bowl is a trophy awarded annually by the National Football Foundation (NFF) (owners and operators of the College Football Hall of Fame) to the NCAA Division I-FBS college football team(s) that are recognized by the NFF as the National Champions for that season.

Much like the NHL's Stanley Cup, the trophy is kept by the winning institution for one year, then passed on to the next year's winner. The trophy, manufactured by Tiffany & Co., is made of 400 ounces (11,000 g) of silver and is fashioned in the shape of a football stadium measuring 25 by 18 inches (64 cm × 46 cm) on its base, and 10 inches (25 cm) in height.

AP_NC_Trophy

AP Poll National Championship Trophy – The AP National Championship Trophy is the trophy awarded annually by the Associated Press (AP) to the team who finishes the season at the number one spot in the AP Poll and signifies that team being selected as national champions of college football for that season (as recognized by the AP).

The trophy consists of a silver or gold football suspended above a base which contains the letters "AP" (for Associated Press), along with the information on who the recipient of the trophy was.

AFCA-Coaches-Trophy

Coaches Poll National Championship Trophy – The AFCA National Championship Trophy (also known as the Coaches' Trophy) is the trophy awarded annually by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) to the NCAA Division I FBS college football national champion as determined by the Coaches' Poll. The trophy has been presented since 1986 and was contractually given to the winner of the BCS National Championship Game and its predecessors from 1992-2013. It will continue to be awarded to the No. 1 ranked team in the final poll of the season.

The trophy consists of a Waterford Crystal football affixed to an ebony base, and carries a value of over $30,000. The winning school retains permanent possession of the trophy, as a new one is awarded every year.

The football portion of the trophy weighs approximately 8 pounds and together with the stand, it weighs about 45 pounds (20 kg) and stands 34 inches tall. It is handmade by master craftspeople at Waterford Crystal and reportedly takes nearly three months to complete.

College_Football_Playoff_National_Championship_T

College Football Playoff National Championship Trophy (aka: Baby Oculus) - The College Football Playoff National Championship Trophy is the trophy awarded to the winner of the College Football Playoff (CFP), the postseason tournament in American college football that determines a national champion for the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). It is currently held by the Clemson Tigers, who won the third College Football Playoff National Championship to cap the 2016 season.

The 26.5-inch-tall (67 cm), 35-pound (16 kg) trophy is oblong-shaped like a football at the base, tapering up to a flattened full-size football at the top. It is made of 24-karat gold, bronze and stainless steel, with the bulk of the trophy gold-colored and the football at the top a gray metallic color. The football's four laces represent the four playoff teams.
The trophy is separate from its 12-inch-tall bronze base, so it can be hoisted. The base is finished in black patina and weighs 30 pounds (14 kg).

Bonus Hardware (bringing the total to ELEVEN):

>textilebowltrophy

Textile Bowl Trophy - don’t really know if this is technically still given out, if someone shows me it isn’t given anymore, I’ll remove it.

The Textile Bowl is an American college football rivalry game played annually by the Clemson Tigers football team of Clemson University and the NC State Wolfpack football team of North Carolina State University. The rivalry game has been known as the Textile Bowl since 1981. The two universities are founding members of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), and both have competed in the ACC's Atlantic Division since the conference initiated divisional play.

The rivalry's name is derived from the fact that Clemson and North Carolina State have two of the largest university-level textile schools in the world, and from the textile industry's historic importance in the economic development of their respective states of South Carolina and North Carolina.

College Football Belt - Not an "accredited" trophy, but still pretty cool. Cool enough the Bama player was waving it on their sideline during our game. The picture is from the last time we had it, claimed from Auburn, and held several games. Andre Branch was famous for showboating with it.

From their website: The concept was easy, no one could claim The Belt without defeating the current title-holder on the field. But where do we start? Who would be the first Belt holder? Some wanted to go back to the first college football games between Princeton & Rutgers while others felt we should start with the 1936 Minnesota Golden Gophers since they were the first team to be named National Champions by the Associated Press.

The decision was finally made to give the first Belt to the best college football team within our lifetime. Most of us were born in the early 1960’s so there was really only one choice -- the 1971 Nebraska Cornhuskers.

On January 1, 1972, after a 38-6 victory in the Orange Bowl over Alabama, Nebraska was awarded The Belt. The Cornhuskers stood with a 32-game winning streak & universal acclaim as “Greatest Team Ever”. Since that game, each champion has defended The Belt every time they take the field. The Belt is held with a win or tie while The Belt is claimed by the new champion only when the current title-holder is defeated on the field of play.

The Graveyard - Clemson Tombstones X 4...bringing the total to FIFTEEN

@FSU
ACCCG - Virginia Tech
Fiesta Bowl - Ohio State
NCG - Alabama

Clemson has garnered 73 wins over AP or USA Today ranked teams over the years, but some wins stand out. Winning over a ranked team in Death Valley is one thing, but gaining victory over a ranked team on an opponent’s home field is an extraordinary accomplishment. To document these victories, Clemson has constructed a “Graveyard” at the entrance to the Clemson practice fields behind the Jervey Athletic Center.

EDIT: Added Tombstones

Fun fact about the CFB belt. No matter where you start it before 1970 it merges with the current timeline. If you give it to any FBS school at any time it'll still end up where it is today.

That is amazing if you think about that bc, 9 trophies would fill that tiny little trophy case that the coots need to keep all their trophies that has any value to them all through out their FB history.

Do we get to keep the fiesta bowl trophy? That thing is impressive!

Also, I thought that the championship "belt" was a theoretical award (like just a designation) and not a physical object at all?

I read somewhere that the Firsta bowl keeps the trophy but they designed a less expensive replica for the winner.

The belt Alabama was waving around is called their ball out belt and is given to the person who caused the last turnover.

Question about the belt, it appears that picture of Andre Branch is at the ACC title game, we lost 3 games that year between then and beating auburn. Why didn't it go to the first team that beat us? I believe that would have been Georgia tech that year (which is a scary thought...)

It's on their website.

But we lost it when GT beat us.

Jan 12, 2017, 9:18 AM

Won it back from VT in the championship.

Lost it to West Virginia.

It then stayed in the Big 12 for a while, was with Baylor for a year, Oklahoma for a few games, then TCU for a year. Bama picked it up from TAMU.
