Thoughts From A Helicopter Pilot

Nov 18, 2019, 4:30 PM

1. Once you are in the fight, it is way too late to wonder if this is a good idea.

2. It is really a bad thing to run out of airspeed, altitude and ideas all at the same time.

3. Dear Lord, don't let the engine quick because gravity is a #####.

1) I hope this guy knows what he's doing
2) Why did I eat that MRE before getting on this thing
3) Treetop level does not mean skids/wheels in the trees

My personal favorite:

Helicopters don’t fly. They beat the air into submission.

Advice to those about to ride in a Chinook...

Once you are onboard - take a close look at all the hydraulic lines. If you don't see any liquid coming out of the hydraulic lines - don't take a ride in it. The only reason for no visible hydraulic fluid in a Chinook is that there is none left...

That is hilarious. On Military Appreciation Day (Wofford gam) my nephew and I walked through the Chinook on Bowman field. I noticed all the hydraulic lines everywhere throughout the walls. They had very small diameters and I was amazed that they let the public walk through. The hydraulic lines looked very exposed and vulnerable to any curious hands. Very cool experience and another reason Clemson is a great university. Go Tigers!!
