4K

Jan 13, 2020, 3:35 PM

ESPN just posted a graphic showing all of the channels that the game is on. One of them just said '4K' and it had a couple of broadcasts next to it. Any idea what channel that is and if it is on YouTube TV?

Google did not provide a clear answer. TIA

According to an ESPN press release, "4K resolution and is available to fans who receive 4K service through Altice, Comcast or DIRECTV".

From everything I've read, it's only through DirectTV.

it all comes down to your cable provider and if they

are equipped for 4k broadcasts or if your box is equipped for 4k. If they are not, you may have to use the espn app, but good luck with that. Usually the espn app goes to hell and buffers for big games. I got a 7 day free trial on sling, so hoping they will offer the 4k

I don't see where they limit 4K. Shouldn't it be available to anyone who receives 4k shows from Amazon, etc.

OK, then, I may as well watch this down at the Clemson Bar here in Bradenton, Fl. Part owner is Clemson grad at the oyster Bar.

It seems to be very limited from everything I've read, but I would like to be pleasantly surprised.

4K live broadcast goes back to the production equipment (ie camera resolutions). Then you need 4K distribution and receiving equipment, hence this 4K broadcast being limited to Directv and few other operators. There is plenty of 4K TVs and streaming companies but much of the content is being upscaled from HD, atleast for live sports events. True 4K will get more popular over next few years, but in general is mostly restricted to movies and tv shows right now except for special events like the Masters and Super Bowl etc.

True. In fact, most live sports are still broadcast in only 720p. Hopefully, they will have at least 1080p for the main broadcast.
