Question about Patriots Point Firework Display

I've lived in Charleston for years, but never attended the Patriots Point display. Does anyone know how late you can get there or the Waterfront park to find a decent spot to view the fireworks? I don't want to get there too early and sit all day when I can be doing stuff around the house, and I don't want to get there too late and not be able to get in.
