Please explain - What does a prevent defense prevent?

Why suddenly switch to a 3-man rush & get little pressure on the QB?
Why is 8 defenders in coverage supposed to be better than the blitzing at the end of the game?

Was it Dabo's decision or Venables, or both, to go with the prevent defense at the end?

Maybe Jadar's FS miscues skeered Venables about the long ball more than we're used to? TJ Greene was a different animal...

A PREVENT defense usually prevents you from winning the game and it almost worked early this morning. Somehow, we "luckily" averted the usual outcome. Don't think we have any Heisman candidates this year.
