On transfer QBs in 2019

Jul 23, 2019, 1:49 PM

I'm really only focusing here on 2: Jalen Hurts and Justin Fields. IMO, I believe Hurts will BY FAR make a bigger impact at OKLA than Fields will at OHST. Hurts is just too much an experienced and polished QB. Maybe I missed it, but I never saw Fields do anything that made me think, "Wow! Is that kid special!" Rather, everytime old Kirby put Fields in I thought, "Why in the world did you take J.F. out?" Fields will have a tough time even being half as good as Haskins. Hurts WILL be the man in Soonerland. Fields a bust as a Buck.

The top QB in the nation in '19 - Trevor Lawrence. QB Tigers should worry most about (reg. season) - Kellen Mond.

I am a big Jalen Hurts fan and will, likely, always pull for him. He has every bit the character Trevor and Deshaun have...and that counts for so much more than pure physical talent...although that doesn't hurt! ;)

Fields may not even win the starting job. His struggles are continuing at OSU.

I think that the best transfer QB will be out of Clemson. No I don't mean KB. Hunter Johnson will be special at NWestern. I agreed with them going with KB in 2017, but I am not trying to knock Johnson. As good as I think he is, I don't think that he was ready as a freshman. I think that he will put Nwestern back in the B1G championship, and would not be surprised if they win it.

I think that Fields and Hurts will have decent seasons, but I think that they will both garner scrutiny because I don't think the expectations are reasonable for either one. Oklahoma lost a ton on the O-line, but everybody seems to think that doesn't matter. Murray and Mayfield would not have both went 1st overall if they were only a product of the system. I am thinking that Oklahoma's offense and Hurts look pedestrian this year.

I think that Fields has a decent upside, but this will be his first season of trying to run a full offense. Ninety percent of the time the ankle biters used him was situational, and they were not trying to give him the whole play book. After a year or two, he may be something special at O31-0 St, but I will be surprised if it is this year.

As for Mond, he was not great against most teams last year. I just don't see him getting that lucky against us this year. If he throws the same throws as last year, we intercept him 5 times this year. The whole SEC is pinning their hopes on A&M, and they will be just as disappointed as they were Jan 7th.
