Jolly at 3rd?
Mar 12, 2017, 8:29 AM

Why not put Robert at 3rd to get more pop into the lineup? He is hitting .389. As a season ticket attender, this kid has natural baseball instincts and a good enough arm to play the corner. Cromwell can be worked in as a defensive replacement until he shows some hitting consistency. He is at .182 now. Tigers are on a roll right now but also have been a little lucky. That could turn and they need the hitting.

I, too, an a huge fan of Jolly. He adds a lot of heart and soul to the team and is a genuinely good guy. He certainly has been on a tear. That being said, I don't feel like third base is a place you simply plug a bat in. To make the plays there, you have to be a pretty good athlete with a plus arm. Cromwell is doing a very nice job there and has shown some flashes with his bat as well. The batting averages for him and Weston Jackson are deceptively low. They both have hadn't some quality ABs that just didn't result in hits. I'd like to see RJ see the field as well, but I don't think replacing Cromwell is the answer.

Cromwell has thrown out 7 hitters at first base. He has 3 errors. Not good. Also struck out 13 times in 44 AB. He must have excellent potential or coach wouldnt have him playing but sometimes if a guy is pressing its best to sit for a while. Also, Jolly is at .393. I have never heard of a team benching a guy hitting that. I trust the manager will get this right.

cromwell is 1000% better than anything we had last year. the error friday was on a rocket that a lot would not have come up wit. the other one in greenville should also been a hit. this guy has already made a ton of very hard plays. i guess some people just cant be pleased.

This is one time I agree with derp. Chromwells glove has been a pleasant?surprise and needs to stay there. Hopefully his hitting will come around.

We tried plugging players in last year at third and you saw what happened. The hot corner is not an easy position. I will take the lower batting average for the defense that Cromwell is giving the team. I hate it for Jolly but he is not a third baseman. Jolly may have to rotate in the DH position or give Chris relief during mid week games behind the plate.

Last year we rotated .200 hitters at third. If you want defense, Greene is showing some serious leather work. Take the hitting to get a lead and then go to the gloves.

Greene was terrible at third base last year. Don't let the one nice play he made cloud your memory. Also he is almost an automatic out every time he comes to the plate. He must tear the cover off the ball in practice, because I just don't get what Monte sees in him.

the fall and spring and Greene was an offensive liability there as well. I didn't particularly like his defense in those sessions either but I am very happy for him to be making some big plays and gaining confidence. Greene seems like a really good kid that works very, very hard and is a good teammate. I think Coach Lee values that kind of effort and attitude a lot and sees potential there. Just a guess though.

Greene is hitting .125. I have watched the Tigers put up a lot of goose egg innings while at the plate. Oddly enough with all the lefties they dont hit righthanded pitching well. Jolly has an excellent eye and is a very good contact hitter. OK, put Robert J at second but get him in the lineup. That is my point.

Jolly isn't a 3B...
Chris Williams is a little more versatile than he is. You can bounce him to 3B, 1B, C, of OF. I would like to see someone else get an opportunity in the OF over Jackson....he's doing literally next to nothing at the plate.

Rohlman needs to at the outfield so jolly can DH. I agree Weston Jackson needs to find the bench.

and a powerful bat. He certainly has been very cold to start the season but I think that he will heat up as he stays in the line-up. I don't know that benching him is the viable option either. I would like to see Jolly play our mid-week games and Chris play the weekends and see how guys' bats come around in April.

Jolly didn't work out as a pinch hotter last year -
he needs at-bats.
can't see how we can afford to have him sitting...

had a better bat. That guy needs to be swinging. Cromwell reminds me of Kyle Parker when he was at third.

You are a prophet and dont know it. Jolly is DH today as Cromwell gets a day off. Greene at second. Not behind the plate but good to see a .393 hitter in the lineup.

But he's in the game in the place of Reed rohlman. Both of those bats need to be in the lineup at the same time.

I have no inside knowledge but I think Rohlman may have a lingering leg or hamstring issue. In this weather, not a bad idea to let it heal.
