Merriweather got touches pretty often. I mean, he was our primary running back for a couple of years. Ben Hall barely ever sniffed the ball.
I agree on the one drive, it was a mistake, but overall...not so much.

and the Merriweather debacle against $CU may be the biggest of them all followed closely by the decision to give CJ and James Davis a combined 13 carries in a bowl game against a team (Kentucky) with the nations 113th ranked defense against the run.

Davis was the better RB all year, and Merriweather was probably gassed. Anyway, it doesn't matter if Proctor can hit somebody in the endzone or if Dean makes the kick.
All of you saying Merriweather was underused must not have watched much football before James Davis came to the program.

because most all of us would've put Davis in the game if it looked like Merriweather was gassed. Davis was by far the better back, and probably the only reason he was in instead of Spiller or Davis was because they were both tired. We all loved Reggie because of his balance and effort, but he wasn't nearly the back that Davis or Spiller were.

But I don't think you can say that Reggie was in beast mode, or that he definitely would've taken us closer to the goal line, based on the three carries he had. What's more unfortunate is that we couldn't have had CJ in at that time, given that he averaged over 10 YPC in the game.
You also can't really say he was "a shell of himself," since he had run for 166 yards against NC State the week before.

You're telling me he should've gotten more than 30 rushes in a backfield with CJ Spiller and James Davis? And Merriweather was pretty much the feature back for a couple of years, and never had more than 800 yards rushing. We forget how bad of a rushing team we were before Davis and Spiller got to Clemson.

It sucked that he didn't really have much of a place in Morris' offense, and that he had the medical stuff going on.
He was a good enough blocker and special teamer to make an NFL roster.

Re: Most underused player in Clemson history:

Not all time, but right now I'd have to say it's been Martavis Bryant.
I know he's had issues with the playbook and that he's not much of a blocker.
But the guy is open deep every time we throw it to him. It's either on the money and a deep completion/TD or pass interference call.
No idea why we don't send him deep a little more often, especially when defenses had to account for Nuk and Sammy over the top, too.
I expect him to breakout this year and add the full-on Randy Moss element we've already seen glimpses of.

with great hands. Every time you turned around he was standing 20 yards downfield without a defender in sight, jumping up and down and waving his arms while the QB tucked it and ran, or sailed one over a covered receiver's head 3 yards downfield on the sideline.

target was Jerry Butler. Didn't leave a lot of room in the gameplan for Clark unfortunately.
Just remember that one of his catches is the one that set-up "The Catch" between Fuller and Butler - Clark caught a pass on the previous down right between two Carolina defensive backs - was not an easy catch to make.

Not to take anything away from those four because they hold almost all Clemson receiving records. JB and PT would be up there too in the record books with more opportunities.
