Let's see if SC state legislature has balls to do what they 60 years ago!

Jul 31, 2020, 11:54 AM

I don't know the exact year, 1962 maybe...ACC had a rule that conference teams couldn't play teams on probation. Usuc was on probation, so they wouldn't be able to play Clemson or any other ACC school! The SC stepped in and passed a law requiring the two teams to play, or funding would be withheld from them. So..the game was played!

Let's hope the current lawmakers have the balls to do the same!

No. It was in 1952 when the Southern Conference banned Clemson from playing any conference games for going to the Gator Bowl the past year which the conference said no bowls games. The state legislature passed a law requiring Clemson and USC to play.

I believe back then MD also couldnt go to a bowl and they were an elite team that won a Natl Champ within a year or two of this.

Ur thinking of the SoCon in 1952. Which led to formation of ACC.

Honestly...

Don’t really care if we play them or not and probably not something our state legislatures should be concerning themselves with given the list of real issues in our state.

AL, OSU, LSU, and evening FSU are now our rivals. That game is is becoming more and more meaningless to me, especially since all they are really are nothing more than a (very) occasional spoiler for us now.

Yeah, it stopped being as fun the past few years when 99% of their fans know they're going to lose and just hope to keep it close.

Well said.

Some people seem to have difficulty grasping the reality here. Football isn't that important right now.
