Alabama and Clemson trending in opposite directions?

It sure seems like it, based on their latest hires.
Clemson just hired a man named CJ Spiller, a recent inductee into the CFB Hall of Fame. Not only is he a Hall of Fame member, but he has never been fired from any coaching job. At the same time, Alabama hired Bill O'Brien (recently fired coach) and Doug Marrone (recently fired coach).
If you're a recruit, would you rather play for a member of the CFB HALL OF FAME or two guys that hear "Hall" and think you're talking about the long walk to the kitchen they make multiple times a day to get another donut?
Leaving bias out of the equation, I can tell which progrum seems to be on the upswing and which program is googling "unemployed football coaches" and picking names out of a hat. You can interpret these hires however you want, but these are the facts.

or maybe it shows that it doesn't matter who Saban has as assistants so long as he gets the #1 recruiting class year after year after year after year.
having players better than your opponent at every position is a huge advantage.

They have that lightweight $EC schedule so they’ll be ok. Until they play us of course...

ranked in the Top 10. I think everyone in college football would agree with that.

Well Steve Sarkisian had been fired at his most recent job prior to Bama, and that seemed to work out just fine for them.
There's also been a ton of coaches to fail in the NFL who happened to do just fine in college, and plenty more coaches who were great coordinators, but failed as head coaches.

NFL head coach, not so much. Then he came to Alabama.

Last I checked we were 28 points better than Bama. That gap may be widening.***

Sure. Clemson fans can hope. And despite Shack or MoCity’s belief in Bill O’Brien, my hope is he implodes Bama’s Offense. We’ll see. Go Tigers!

Saban has hired quite a few fired, even shamed coaches. Most of those have moved on to head coaching jobs. I understand your points concerning character, etc. but it hasn't hurt Bama one bit in the winning and recruitment department.

Bill O’Brien will be a good OC from an X’s and O’s standpoint....
What’s more suspect will be his ability to relate to college kids as a coach and recruiter...
Based on his handling of some situations in Houston - I have my doubts...

I don’t believe Coach Sanaa’s record of coaching hires has been all that bad. Amazingly, he has to do it every year and he does with great success. I don’t see a trend here. Clemson isn’t going to fade away nor is Bama. They will begin 2021 no. 1 and no.2.

Come to Bama, we put more kids in the NFL than anyone else and I've won 6 NCGs. I have to hire coaches frequently, they may rotate, just a life lesson. This year we have 2 coaches who have NFL head coaching experience. Want to win? Want to go to the league? Want to play the best? Come to Bama.
Not a hard sell.

On the other hand, if you are a HS senior and your goal is to get to the NFL, seems awfully appealing to have two guys who were head coaches in that league coaching you every day.
Clemson and Bama are being highly successful, just doing it in different ways.
