Johnny Football as a Pro QB

Jan 15, 2014, 1:57 PM

Since folks are projecting TB to be a low round NFL pick or not an NFL QB, I have to ask about Johnny Football.

Would you draft him?
Will JF succeed in the NFL and make a good NFL QB?

Yes, he is a great athlete meaning he could avoid hits and tackles and make plays out of nothing by scrambling, sometimes like a chicken with its head cut off.
Yes he is fast and crafty/shifty.
I am not sure about arm strength or accuracy, so I will be neutral.

But sometimes didn't Johnny F succeed in spite of himself?
Didn't some of his receivers just keep scrambling and watching what JF would do or didn't they just make great plays to bail JF out when he hurled the ball in their direction blindly?

Walt Deptuala, self-proclaimed expert (sic), said before the 2012 Heisman that JF should not be the winner because he had one good game and beat one team. He said he beat Alabama, but in A&M's losses JF was often the main reason they lost.
- Now Walt says JF is the greatest college QB and he praises him constantly. (?)

The scrambling like a chicken with its head cut off:
- is that going to really work in the NFL where the folks are faster, aka the best atheletes, fastest guys from college go to the NFL? Mike Vick was caught, harassed and often hit hard.

Scrambling like a chicken with its head cut off:
In college, that has been rather hard for any defense to stop because JF was completely In-outof-Control.
- He would turn and run backwards/sideways for 10 yards or rush forward to jump into the back of his own linemen and then act like a whirling dervish.
- Seriously, how long can anyone keep covering guys when you have no idea where the QB is going to run or throw or scramble or freak out?

So if the NFL has the best and fastest football players, how good will QB JF be?

Would you draft him?

Other than that no.

Walt also said RGIII was the next coming and Andrew Luck was overrated coming out. Walt is not very smart.

Now that was funny.

I would not pick him and he or Clowney, if chosen first,

Jan 15, 2014, 2:23 PM

will go down as one of the bigger busts in NFL history. I have no faith in either one of them having a meaningful if even lengthy NFL career.

Re: I would not pick him and he or Clowney, if chosen first,

Absolutely I'd take him. He had such a horrible defense that he had to force throws because he knew if he didn't score on every possession, they'd probably lose. The kid makes plays, plain and simple, and if you've ever watched him play, then you understand that durability is not an issue bc he contorts his body to where he hardly ever takes a hit straight on. He's the kind of guy that either you love him, or you hate him, but you #### sure tune in to watch him. I'm not gonna lie and say I'm not biased, I got my undergrad degree at Clemson and my masters from A&M, but he is one of the GOAT and, being a Texans fan as well, I hope he goes #1.

Sorry to break it to you, TXT, but as much as ESPN would

Jan 15, 2014, 2:46 PM

have you believe otherwise, the SEC isn't the NFL, the hits aren't the same, and while I'm proud and impressed with your educational background and hope you are doing well in life, your bias is clearly showing. He will be a circus act that will grow old quickly and probably stay injured.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Think his scrambling ability will greatly diminished

Jan 15, 2014, 2:33 PM

playing against much bigger and faster defenses in the NFL. Don't know how many hits he can take with his small frame either.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Are you telling me the SEC speed and its pulverizing

Jan 15, 2014, 2:50 PM

defenses haven't prepared him? Mind blown.

Re: Johnny Football as a Pro QB

Jan 15, 2014, 2:34 PM

No. He is going to end up snapped in half before the end of the first season.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Manziel will be on the SEC network within...

Jan 15, 2014, 2:41 PM

2 years. Too small and too weak of an arm. Hasn't the NFL learned by now with the likes if Tebow, Matt Leinart, and Vince Young that wins in college don't translate to the NFL if you lack the skills to play QB in the NFL.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Have no idea - that's why the scouts and player.......

Jan 15, 2014, 2:49 PM

personnel make these decisions - they know a lot more than we do regarding a player's qualifications.

They can see what he'll be able to do, not just what he has done like we tend to focus on. They don't always get it right but that's their job.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He played in the SEC,

Jan 15, 2014, 3:13 PM

He will do great in the NFL. Wait... What?

I think he will win many Championships in the CFL.

I would not have him on my NFL Team.

Now watch my Vikings draft him, thinking he could be Fran Tarkenton.
