they are screwed, just how will neighbor vs neighbor resolve a dispute, just car accidents for example

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

maybe the county will take over?

Jun 7, 2020, 9:52 PM

there has to be somebody able to arrest a murderer.

i was thinking about common stuff, like who would sell you an insurance policy there, home/auto/liability

maybe they plan to cut property taxes, since they will no longer need money for a police dept

Call your local social services office for immediate 20 minute assistance. They are trained to get you the entitlements you deserve.

Well obviously they are going to replace it with something, it

Jun 8, 2020, 6:53 AM [ in reply to Re: It looks like Minneapolis really is disbanding the police ]

won’t just be lawlessness.

Just saw where this decision is veto proof. Council further explained they weren’t sure what it would look like. I would think they need to have a plan before doing this? Maybe a referendum to see what the citizens think?

Losing 800 officers and hoping the county or state will come in and magically fill the void will likely be pretty close to lawlessness.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Some program will fill the void. If you actually think they are going

Jun 8, 2020, 12:25 PM

to get rid of the police and have a time period where no program exists... then we should talk, I have some great investments you would be interested in. First and foremost oceanfront property in beautiful Kansas.

I think there is a plan. An agency of some kind to deal with some of the same issues that cops would have. 1 of their assembly women was on talking about it just now. I was doing a couple other things and didnt pay attention.

minn wont be the lawless wild west...or wild mid west tho. This could be a social experiment

Well they are #16 in us cities for violent crime

Jun 7, 2020, 10:04 PM

they should be able to get to Baltimore, St Louis and Detroit. Those cities, while didn't disband the police, and drastic changes following riots.

What a disconnect. We know who’s running these cities? Yet Trump is dividing the country?Makes no sense.

The problem is the police unions and the whole structure

Jun 7, 2020, 11:12 PM

that punishes other cops for turning in the bad ones. It's almost impossible to get rid of a bad cop until he kills somebody on camera. And even then it's not guaranteed.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

it is so confusing

Jun 7, 2020, 11:15 PM

to determining whether unions are good or bad. I wonder if it depends on the occupation.

Whatever new agency forms and takes place

Jun 8, 2020, 8:13 AM

Will hire the newly unemployed police to take the role.

The only thing that might change is the accountability factor

Yep, they're going to rebuild it from scratch. They probably need to. First thing they need to do is raise the pay. Cops are far too important to our society to pay so little. Higher pay will attract better cops.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Pay for both teachers and cops is decent

Jun 8, 2020, 7:37 PM

once you get out of the South. They are both highly desirable jobs pretty much all through the NE and rust belt.
