Interesting topic I saw on FGF (guilty)

Oct 3, 2018, 7:49 PM

I would have responded there, but I was banned years ago.

Have you ever dumped a friend over sports allegiances? Sadly, I have, and not just social media. I have removed many friends on social media, but can think of two actual friendships I have abandoned. One was a stretch to call a friend, but the other was at times one of my best friends.

Both of these started in social media, but eventually translated into flesh and blood relationships.

In response, I have tempered my sports posts (along with politics and religion). I unapologetically support my Tigers on social media, but stay away from bashing the Coots. I may “like” or comment on an anti-SCAR post, but I never initiate them, and do my best to stick to pumping up Clemson. Most of my friends know by now that cyber friendships will be hidden or removed if they don’t reciprocate. Of course, none of this applies to TigerNet. Kind of an offshoot of the “if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all” philosophy.

Not proud of this, but I have to be me.

I've always said if it gets to the point where friendships are potentially lost then it's time to reexamine your priorities. I'm neighbors with UGa, Tenn, and VTech fans and we always keep it in perspective.

The closest thing we come to bashing is constructive criticism.

As Dabo said, "it's not life or death."
