I think the GT game will help us against Lamar Jackson

Sep 18, 2016, 1:17 AM

LJ runs a lot of run/pass option. Being gap sound is the key to containing him as well as dealing with GT's triple option.

Good thought. They are obviously a much more vertically threatening offense, but that is a really solid insight.

I still think in Jackson's case the legs feed the wolf.

He's a much-improved passer; I still question if he can beat Clemson with his arm alone if we can stop him from running. He'll throw for 200+, most likely, but will he be able to move the chains and sustain drives if he can't run?

I don't think so. Not well enough to beat us, anyhow. He'll make some plays and get some points with his arm...but he does not look like a guy ready to throw for 400+ at night in Death Valley. Not yet, anyway.

Our secondary isn't great

Stop the run, get some kind of pass rush and hopefully we'll be just fine.

Bryant's return is huge!

U of L better have one heck of an O-line (I don't know how good of one they have), because our D-line/LBs without having Wilkins locked in at SDE is straight savage!

I know it was SC State today, but I liked what I saw out of Mullen in his physical ability at corner.

Yes. With Watkins, Wilkins and Lawrence on rotation...

at DT along with Huggins and Pagano, the line could be fresh all game long.

I agree completely with you here.

My thoughts exactly. If we can limit the run we can rattle him. His passing has gotten better this year, but I think we'll be in their backfield all day long. It should make him have to press.

Lamar Jackson is very fast with some good moves. We better wrap him up when we get a hand on him.

But, first, we have to take care of business with the Bees

Gotta agree

Even though 2 different styles of offense, the play of their QB's flows dictates what they do. Take away the QB run option or disrupt his ability to get rid of the ball in GT's offense, you force them into having to beat you through the air. UL, what Jackson is doing on the ground opens up the passing game. Limit him on the ground, can he get it done solely through the air?

Coach Venables & his D have tall tasks these next 2 weeks. 1 game @ a time boys.

Home field will slow down timing off snap count ...

Sep 18, 2016, 6:56 AM

And any other verbal communication by the Cards offense.

Perhaps we could make Death Valley loud?
