How long has Florida Gators worn all Orange??

Sep 16, 2015, 12:16 AM

I'm watching the FL/ECU replay and those gators almost look like our Tigers out on the field.

In the 80"s and early 90's that was their home uni I recall. Later they started mixing like all the rest.

Florida wore an Orange Jersey

Until Visor came along.

I've been wrong two times, but this isn't one of them.

Not sure about all orange, but there was a noticeable uptick

In their orange wearing when one Charlie Pell took over the reigns of the football program after leaving our beloved Tigers. So, considering LSU, AU, and UF's "borrowing," shall we say, and SC's perpetual shadow syndrome..CU is pretty much the single greatest influence on the SEC.

They WISH they looked like our Tigers ! We outclass them in the classroom , on the field and in our everyday going on .

Not every SEC school is like South Carolina. UF is top tier school that has a long-running legacy of being premier in a lot of majors. They consistently outrank us in relevant publications with regard to academics and diploma value.

If we keep going they way we are with innovative programs like iCar, WISE, etc., and a stronger emphasis on academics, we'll hopefully continue to grow into a similar role in our region, and close the gap academically.

As far as the uniform goes, there was some dude- some Emmitt someone or other, who wore all orange a lot ;)

Yup, I live in central Florida, and I know of a valedictorian from a local high school who didn't get into UF...and went to Clemson instead.

UF has gotten crazy competitive for admission and it is something like 3x the size in terms of enrollment.

Sounds good, except we didn't all orange until Ford took over.

Cack game in 1980.

1989 was last all orange uni combo

So says the interwebs. Orange jerseys were the norm for them during the coach Pell and Hall days in the 80s. I don't think Emmit Smith ever wore a blue jersey.

When Spurrier came back he banished the orange and went back to the traditional blue.

Florida in orange is as strange as UVA in orange

Sep 16, 2015, 7:05 AM

I mean yeah, it's a color for both schools, but it's been their secondary color for decades. To see either school suddenly get into the orange craze feels wrong. Especially UVA--when I was in college almost no part of their uniform was orange.
