heisman article "Jacksons body of work is far superior to...

Dec 5, 2016, 11:59 AM

Watsons"

how do people come up with this? Yes he has better rushing stats but these are QUARTERBACKS and watson didnt have to run it that much...

here are the STATS...
Watson- 129 more completions
Watson- 10% higher completion percentage
Watson- 524 more passing yards
Watson- 7 more TD passes
Jackson- 6 Less interceptions but over 100 less pass attempts
Watson- Higher QB Rating by a little bit less than a percent

BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY...
Watson- Head to head victory
Watson- 3 more wins
Watson- ACC champion
Watson- Led team to 2nd straight playoff

I dont think anymore needs to be said!

Go Tigers!

When the chips were down, Watson stood tall

Jackson shrunk from the spotlight.

Watson brought it 13 games. Jackson brought it maybe 8.

Well done in pointing that out. I just hope the voters look at it that clearly and thoroughly. The problem is that many of the voters vote their conference, rather than looking at who really embodies the intent of the award. That showed and was admitted by some of the voters last year.

Jackson is a more dynamic, pure runner, and DW had some inexplicably bad picks. DW is clearly and significantly better in every other way.

Well, it shouldn't be used against him, at least. That doesn't seem to mean much to some of the bias I see in sports writers and Heisman voters of late.

Throw in the stats SINCE the last Heisman was awarded. Then compare these two.

the voting body is just lazy, they don't want to have to

Dec 5, 2016, 12:26 PM

revisit the resumes of all the players. They just want to move on. Thats what I hear when I hear these guys not give credence to overall body of work and wins and losses and how he played in their big games. They played 3 tough games. FSU they rolled but lost the other two(clemson (5 turnovers) and Houston) and lost an additional game to a scrub SEC EAST team. My thing is, people figured them out later in the year. Which is not heisman like. You gotta win when they figure out how to play you. They almost lost to UVA and DUKE.

But whatever. They are going to give it to him because of his first half when he came out of nowhere and they ran up the score on everyone and made sure he did the scoring. Nobody's saying he isn't worthy of going to New York. But the best QB in the country won the ACC Championship.

Nice concise argument that can't "legitimately" be disputed.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

also need to look at who they played

Dec 5, 2016, 12:38 PM

If you look at non-common opponents during the regular season:

Louisville's Competition 29-43 overall (0.40 winning percentage)
4/6 teams had losing records

Clemson's Competition 44-27 overall (0.62 winning percentage)
1/6 teams had a losing record and that was SCSU.

If you put common opponents in (leaving out Clemson/Louisville)

Louisville's Competition 60-72 overall (0.45 winning percentage)
5/11 teams had losing records

Clemson's Competition 75-56 overall (0.57 winning percentage)
2/11 teams had losing record

If you look at the entire regular season schedule

Louisville's Competition 71-73 overall (0.49 winning percentage)
5/11 teams had losing records

Clemson's Competition 84-59 overall (0.59 winning percentage)
2/11 teams had losing records

Clemson obviously paid better competition throughout the year which would also impact the stats.

Re: also need to look at who they played

Dec 5, 2016, 3:10 PM

I think it's people that haven't watched many of either of their games on tv or in person. They just see the stats and the espn headlines and they just think Ooo Lamar is so awesome, look at all those rushing yards and some passing yards. What they don't take into account is the opponents played and the way the games play out.

Lamar had an awesome year no doubt, but when it comes to being a leader, a true QB, and being dependable on that last drive when it REALLY matters, it's no comparison. DW should win the Heisman because he is the best player on a team that leaned on him to win in a lot of games and he delivered everytime.

Having said all that, and all the great stats everyone here has posted, Lamar is going to win and it is a freaking shame.

Excellent points and backup. Fact is DW4 embodies what the "Heisman Trust" established as to what they consider worthy of the award. The voters today somehow seem to have forgotten the criteria.

Hello all, new member and Bama fan here. Much respect for Clemson and for your quarterback! I wasn't really a believer in Watson's abilities until he nearly caused me a heart attack in the NC game lol! Hoping Deshaun wins the Heisman, it would be a travesty if Lamar Jackson were to get it.

The body of work defined:

Dec 5, 2016, 3:01 PM

1)Apparently looking flashy in a loss is better than getting the job done in a win.
2)Leadership is not a factor, nor are record or stats.
3)When you are flashy (therefore the best player), if your team loses multiple games it's the rest of the team's fault.
4)The body of work is also the number of articles written about you
5)The body of work stops 10/31. Everything after that is considered unimportant to college football.
6)The body of work must include minimum 1 head stomping(s).
7)The body of work requires that you rise from every single play acting like you were one step from a sure touchdown.
8)The body of work requires a loss to Clemson.
9)Season must end early (no conf champions or cfp candidates allowed!) to get the votes in on a complete body of work by the deadline.

stats are actually less important. It's supposed to be an individual award and i believe the award will trend more and more in that direction in the coming years.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

How many fumbles has each had?

Dec 5, 2016, 4:46 PM

I tried to find this and can't. That's so strange to me.

Also, DW has taken 11 sacks to LJ's 38. THIRTY EIGHT! That's absurd. I realize part of it is his line but part of it is him taking sacks when he shouldn't. He's supposed to be super-elusive, right? Or make good choices?
