I don't even celebrate Christmas, but it seems awfully grouchy to nitpick about whether a 2000-year old date is correct down to the day.

Know one knows but the bible gives us some clues. First they were making the trip to pay taxes this would not have been done in the winter more like spring or fall. Shepard herding there sheep. This would not be done in the winter. Christmas is the date it is not because jesus was born but because it took theplace of the winter soltice celerbrations by the roman. The romans just simple switched the meaning when they swithed to christainity somewhere around 330 ad
