GT 2012 - Shuey Safety

Sep 21, 2018, 8:06 PM

Hope this link works.

2012 was Venables first season as our DC. I still remember this tackle for a safety against GT in Death Valley and thought it was a clear sign that he had our D headed in the right direction. Kinda an understatement today, but it's worth remembering.

I loved Spencer Shuey

He was a fierce competitor and was Ben Boulware before Ben Boulware was Ben Boulware. Miss seeing him on the field. He’s selling real estate in Charlotte, I hope he is doing well.

That exact play is the point where I thought at the time (and still do) that Clemson turned the corner toward playing good football again. Previously, we had been embarrassed by a secondary that laid back in "prevent" and let the coots pass their way to beating us and MLBs squatting 5 yards deep while wildcat operators ran the ball right by them. This one play signaled to me that a change in mentality had occurred and we were now attacking the ball carrier.
