Is it impossible to buy a basic gas can anymore?

Mar 26, 2021, 10:09 PM

Or do I have to buy one of those that some engineer got off on trying to figure out how to make sure you keep 5 levers pressed in while holding down a rubber button and trying to turn it up high enough so gas can pour out faster than 1 teaspoon per second?

Brother, it hasn’t gotten any better. Gas cans, like toilets, have been ruined by people regulating what’s best for us.

Find the over-engineered piece of crap OSHA compliant gas can that is the easiest to rig up to pour normally. Trust me.... Most cans can be fixed to work at least close to normally.

Just like bathroom faucets and shower heads they're engineered to reduce water flow BUT many are also engineered to let you fix it.

Theyre not dumb the folks who make these cans. There are ways to fix them. Prolly can youtube a workaround on the can you have. Once you have to screw with it to make it work... They're free and clear of the liability when you blow up your house.

I am hitting some yard sales this spring and find a good old fashioned gas can without the safety crap.

not too difficult to disassemble spout enough to work better

Mar 27, 2021, 4:41 PM

also, need to drill in an air vent -- they quietly don't put them in anymore, which totally screws up the flow.
