a salary of $3,000,000 to a head coach. That 33% more that their current coach. If I am Morris I will wait for my options.

Because SMU has BIG $$$. They're where they are because of the death penalty imposed in the '80's, but don't doubt that program can't come back in a big way. Money won't be why they won't return to prominence. The real question is whether SMU can grow without being part of the Power 5.

Is the current coach making 2.25 Mill?

I didn't think he was making that much. But a new coach will make whatever the school will pay him, regardless of what the current coach makes.

They've still got lots of wealthy boosters if I'm not mistaken.
As I've mentioned in other threads, this isn't Morris' dream job but it may be the dream tryout. It's in his home state, in the eyes of major programs like Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, Nebraska, etc. Major programs are averse to hiring coordinators to be their coaches due to recent high-profile failures.
This would give Morris the perfect test-run.

If Chad actually starts having a lot of success, they could become TCU 2.0. The Big XII needs to add teams so they can get back to having 2 divisions & a championship game. A strong SMU, in the heart of Dallas would be the perfect candidate.

HIGHLY doubtful! That program has had almost 24 years to rebuild with countless #s of coaches and personnel coming in to do so...Its a dead end gig, plain and simple...There is no amount of money in the world that can change that program around, at all. You are sandwhiched between the OU Sooners and Texas Longhorns...including programs like TCU, Baylor, and Texas Tech scattered in between..Recruiting nightmare for coaches...Their only experience of success came at the expense of cheating and paying players to come there...
Its similiar to Wofford or Furman having to compete with Clemson and USC in recruiting...Morris is making a mistake and selling himself short IMHO

If that's the case, then I'd see the scenario in my first post playing out then: he'll have a lot of success in the AAC and then parlay that into a better head coaching.

special hc can do wonders, and NO i am not saying that the chad is that. but, if the stars, planets, etc. line up just right, and a little luck with recruiting ,anything is possible.

Not to mention Baylor. They were perpetual losers and now they're a top-level program.

SMU had there big case of trouble with the death penalty in the late 80's, I doubt they are risking anything like that again.

I agree! The school is located in a tiny town, in a small state, that has one of the worst economies in the the country! Oh #### I just described us! They are actually the complete opposite of all those! Why do u think we can afford to pay our coaches the way we do but SMU couldn't?

YALE, Harvard, Princeton, will be winning every year...
I wonder who was last 5 star prospect to go to SMU.... you can pay your coach all the money you want... but in the end, it is also about talent. YALE could have all the money they please through boosters.... but when was the last time they recruited a 5 star player?

scholarships. They do, however, offer athletes academic scholarships. They have endowments that Clemson can only dream about. If they want a FB player at Yale, Harvard, etc., they just give him a full ride from academic pot of money.

How thick are you?
First, schools like Harvard or Yale would have to care about football. If Harvard had as much passion about football as a school like Clemson, then yea, they'd probably be crushing it on the recruiting trail.
But they don't care. Neither does Yale or Princeton or MIT. They're all busy doing more important stuff. SMU, on the other hand, has been making a significant push to improve their athletics.

U just do not know what U are talking about.. SMU can pay a coach $10 mil/yr and have LOTS of $$ left over.. they just might be as rich as Texas, Mich, Yale, Harvard!!!
