We've had those kind before.Herring was a great LB coach not a good DC, got a SB ring this year as a LB coach.Likewise,Wade Phillips is a crap HC but one heckuva DC. Chad Morris is one of the best OC's, jury is still out on him as a HC.
Give Steele credit where it's due, weren't all those players off of the 2014 number one D that left last year Steele recruits ?

Steele was a very good DC at one time. Now hold on, pause the Flamethrower... Back before the spread, when everyone was running simpler, slower and more basic Defenses Steele was pretty good. Top 10? No. Top 50? Definitely however. But, like many older coaches just couldn't evolve with the up tempo, spread them out offenses. I mean we ALL knew Tavon Austin was getting the ball on all those sweeps, yet he didn't. It was time for him to move on. What is more suprising is that he keeps getting hired.

a spread offense at all. He didn't teach them how to think, so I have to disagree that he was a good LB coach. At least he wasn't at the end

You have GOT to be kidding. We gave up 70 points to WV in the Orange Bowl with him running the defense. The whole time he was DC, our tackling was the sloppiest I've ever seen. I kept quoting Danny Ford: "When we hit you, you STAY hit!" Not on Steele's watch.
