Did you know the fumble on the 2 point try

Sep 30, 2019, 9:35 PM

was dead where the QB dropped it? In college you can’t advance a fumble on 4th down/conversion attempt. I was worried that RB was going to pick it up and fight his way in but it wouldn’t have mattered. Did they talk about that on the broadcast?

I don't remember them ever mentioning it.

And given the history of ACC refs, I was worried about it even though it would have been illegal.

The refs would’ve called it a pitch for sure.

In one of the articles that I read yesterday, it was referred to as a late option pitch.

Backward......could have been ruled a pitch(lateral ) and therefore could have been advanced by the offensive player....grateful chad Smith was aggressive and Simmons right there as well. Would have been in the hands of the refs to decide if the QB was attempting to pitch the ball....or fumbled into the players hands....

It looked like he was attempting a lateral to me. Once it was strung out, I had no worries. We pursue so well , and don't give up until the whistle.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I saw the ball never touched the ground or does that matter?

After watching the play a dozen times or more, it looks like the ball was knocked out by the impact or one of our players. It didn't appear to be an attempt to toss/lateral to their guy. Anyway, player #2 was knocked backwards and out of bounds after picking up the ball.

That Howell option play - if he tried some kind of pop pass, maybe they'd have made it - but Howell was looking for a cutback lane that just wasn't there.

Didn't matter because Chad Smith cleaned up the mess rather abruptly .
