Deshaun Watson

Nov 14, 2016, 9:54 AM

Watson set new passing yardage record in Saturday's game. It was also the worst game of his career. He threw into double coverage numerous times. Clemson needed 5 yards for a first down and he throws a bomb down field. Incomplete and we punt. Watson forced some of his passes to covered receivers. Lucky these passes were not intercepted, also. He did not take care of the ball when in the red zone. We would have at least gotten field goals. He looked like a freshman in his first game.

Playing QB is very hard when your team cant run the ball. Clemson needs to be balanced for the offense to work and when you put it all on DW's shoulders (possibly hurt shoulders) he is going to press and make mistakes.

Maybe Schussler would have been a better option if he was hurt that bad.

Exactly - he pressed and ended up making........

mistakes - needs to stop trying to force things.

He's human, he makes mistakes...that said

I don't think our expectations are too high because he is capable of playing better AND to be clear he is still playing at a very high level. Unhuman for most. Not sure of the answer...we definitely want him playing loose because we are always in it with him in control. Just have to eliminate some of these boneheaded turnovers. Maybe easier said than done, but I know he is capable of better decision making in key situations...

How does he keep the gunslinger mentality while managing the game in key situations? Only he can answer that call... To be fair he has been successful so far and all is still in front of him/the team.

Worst game of his career? Pretty lofty statement considering, like you said, he broke records. He threw 70 passes. Common sense says the more frequently one passes, the chances of them making bad passes increases. Should he have thrown that pass with 5 minutes left in the game? No, but by that time he had thrown 60 some odd passes. That wears on a QB. Deshaun did not lose us this game, the defense did.

Well if we get a run game and an oline he wouldn't have to throw that much.
