PSA: The CFP decides the sites, the teams have no input.

Nov 18, 2019, 11:51 AM

While debating about Atlanta or Phoenix, please keep in mind that while the #1 team does get preference, the committee makes the decisions, and as we’ve seen in previous years, it can go against logic sometimes.

Selection Committee Protocol 9B:

When assigning teams to sites, the committee will place the top two seeds at the most advantageous sites, weighing criteria such as convenience of travel for its fans, home?crowd advantage or disadvantage and general familiarity with the host city and its stadium. Preference will go to the No. 1 seed.

Essentially giving the #1 team the site they want...

Giving “preference” is not the same as giving them the decision. And the scenarios still possible could put Clemson in Atlanta or Phoenix regardless of if they were ranked 1,2,3 or 4.

I’m not saying the CFP won’t make the same decision that the #1 and #2 teams would have made, I’m just saying that the narrative that the team picks is completely false.

I actually thinks it almost states that we could be in Atlanta as the 1,2, or 3 seed.

Based on our location, they might send the #1 to Arizona to prevent the #4 team from getting a home game.

Not necessarily. Example: If it happened that LSU was 1 and uga or Clemson were 4, then they would play in AZ. Would they really prefer that over Atlanta?

They did that to us the last time we were a 1 seed ... put us in our opponents back yard.

Brad Brownell: Only Larry freaking Shyatt has a WORSE overall winning percentage among Clemson basketball coaches since 1975. Let that sink in. It's Larry Shyatt & then Brad Brownell.

Yeah. If the teams had any say I hope we would've

Nov 18, 2019, 12:13 PM

been in the Rose Bowl in 2017. I don't know who thought Clemson would rather play Bama in New Orleans.

The site of the FINAL game is set in advance. New Orleans was the chosen site in 2017 regardless of the teams involved. Same as this year. It WILL be in NO again.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm talking about the semifinal 2 years ago

Nov 18, 2019, 12:23 PM

We got sent to the Sugar Bowl as the #1 seed while OU got the Rose Bowl as the #2.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Wrong. NOLA was the semifinal location.***

Dabo chose to play in NOLA.

It’s what they all wanted/picked

Although we were almost a lock to be #1 that year, we did not know who we would be playing until the selection came out. Officially, we did not know that we would be the #1 seed. It may have been where he wanted to go, but there is no way that he chose, because they find out the pairings and locations when we do.

this was not the case when we played Bama in the semi. Who thought it'd be better for us to play Bama in the Sugar Bowl?

Let's end the semantical gymnastics:

The committee will place the #1 seed where they want to be.

Simple as that.

#1 seed always gets their choice of where to play

Which site is more advantageous to OSU - Phoenix or Atlanta ???

Depends on who they’re playing. They have a national alumni base. If they’re playing a SE team if I were them I’d pick AZ

I'm worried that Utah ends up at #4

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: PSA: The CFP decides the sites, the teams have no input.

Dec 2, 2019, 5:14 PM

If they do NOT pick the site that the #1 team prefers, then they should not even offer that option. It would be like offering someone ice cream or cake for desert, and after someone picks ice cream, saying "Sorry, you're getting cake". That would be dumb as crap. I doubt that those geniuses at the CFPC would be that dumb. Oh wait...
