Son of made it official Satdiday. He's a Tiger!

Also changed his major from chemsitry (pre-med) to engineering. This tells me he still has no clue what he wants to do. BUT, and least I can help him confirm or deny the engineering thing over the next 5 months where I work. I will have his #### out here as much as possible.
Any advice from recent CU grads or p's of recent grads?

the bills, then transfer back out to pay the bills. An immediate 7% savings assuming you are in SC and use the Future Scholar plan.

is great - we have one for our grandson - and you get a deduction from SC taxable income for it.
But, many people did not do one. But if you contribute money into the plan and take it out the next day you still can treat the contribution to the plan as a tax deduction in SC - and the SC tax rate is 7%. So if you are paying tuition, etc of $15,000 - you save $1,050 in SC tax.

that was a big part of our curriculum...all the engineering work that goes into that ish.
plus your standard optimization, stochastics, simulation, etc. etc.
we were probably 40% CS, 60% "traditional" IE. we didn't take thermo, def bods, diff eq, all that crap...instead we built databases and wrote code to incorporate all the optimization and simulation crap that we learned.
but we're a buncha nerds, so take that w/ a grain of salt

jellystone. We have a family friend who has done environmental studies type work for years and seems to like it and be gainfully employed whenever she wants to be. I think that's what he wants to do, if he has any idea - which he doesn't.
I was floored when he said he had applied to engineering in the first place - don't think that's for him anyway.

and someone who hires engineers, I would recommend Electrical or Mechanical engineering, unless there is a really specific thing that your son is interested in that would require something like ceramic or chemical. And if that's the case, he needs to do a lot of research into how many jobs are actually available with that specific focus.
For a LOT of engineering jobs, employers view Electrical and Mechanical as the most broad types of engineering degrees and treat them as almost interchangeable, especially for 1st and 2nd level positions. And that's because those degree programs typically get the most cross-exposure and for a lot of engineering jobs, the engineering degree is so that the employer knows that that the employee has the basic fundamentals to be able to learn on the job. Few engineers are going to come in a know the specifics about what they are going to be expected to do right out of school.

...and I hate recommending this b/c I ####### hate the gators...and Gainesville...
but UF has a pretty dope BME department and med school if I recall.
With those numbers she could probably get into GT...#2 BME program last time I checked.
I knew some really smart BMEs at Tech, and their life sucked. It's hard AF. If she's doing this for pre-med, I'd go to a private school where they'll prioritize her GPA to get into other Med school. I wouldn't recommend GT for pre-med, especially as a BME, b/c it's that hard.

Not pre-med, she wants to work in a lab or do research. She doesn't want to talk to people.

Use a penny to check the tread on your tires. I the top of Lincoln's head is visible when you put it in the tread, you'll want to explore options on a new set for your vehicle.
