Beware, counterfeit tickets

Sep 6, 2019, 6:14 PM

Just turned down 2 tickets from a guy named Rocky from Craigslist. Im well aware of fake tickets possibly being around because of guys that got burned last year.

Anyway, they may have been legit, but lamination was easy to pull off and the printing wasn't real crisp. He was trying to sell section E. He also didn't get even the slightest upset after I turned him down, after supposedly coming from Clemson to meet me in Seneca. My wife was doing her due diligence and getting pics of his rental car license plate after he parked way out back, and met me out front. These guys really aren't that slick, so beware.

I told this story 2 years ago but I met a guy in Greenville before the Louisville game, maybe 3 years ago I cant remember . Tickets were outrageous but he had 4 for $600. Supposedly decent tickets. When he handed me the tickets, I had the seating chart pulled up on my phone. The tickets looked real, even felt real. However he had the North and South sides reversed. Luckily I caught it before money exchanged hands.

He may have had plans to take my money either way, but I made sure to have my 9mm visible next to me in the truck and he suddenly got into a hurry to just leave. My only regret was not keeping the tickets because he probably got somebody else.

My teenage son got ripped off with counterfeits last week at the GT game.

Bought a ticket before the game, looked legit, barcode and all. He was really proud of himself, texted me a pic of the lower deck ticket for $40.

Then when he got to the gate he got the bad news. Wouldn't scan. Had to go back out and shell out another $30 for an upper deck ticket.

Man, that's awful. Don't we have the technology where Police or undercover guys can whip out a portable ticket scanner to corner scalpers near the stadium and scan their tickets. Obviously it would either run them off or actually catch a few. No doubt they would just find another corner, but at least a secure presence would be shown.

if one gets printed tickets, they can sell the seats on StubHub by entering the barcode and still have the original paper ticket. it looks real because it is. but the barcode will no longer work to get into the game.

once they went to that system, it was only buy from StubHub, or someone you know, or have the seller go through the gates with you.
