Bama, The numbers on the helmet thing?

Jan 13, 2017, 6:17 AM

Most of us can see the HUGE numbers on the player jerseys so why have the same thing on the helmets? A nice "A" logo, or "Bama", or an elephant of some kind would seem to be more appropriate. Is it easier for the players to grab the correct helmet when they have numbers on them? Do some players have reading disorders?

I know it's a tradition but it seems completely junior high school to me.

Are you that ignorant?

They post them on the classroom doors instead of names because the players can't read letters until their second year. The rule book says uniform so everybody wears a number due to NCAA rules. How hard can this be to understand?

Geville Tiger on Clemson football , "Dabo's only problem is he has to deal with turd fans questioning every move he makes.”

It has to do with tradition. From my understanding, in the early days of football almost all teams had large numbers either on the sides or backs/fronts. The reason being the uniforms would often get so dirty that you couldn't read the numbers. Many teams didn't develop logos or even have mascots/nicknames, etc until many years after starting their football programs up. I guess as they did they started putting them on the their helmets but Bama never did.

Junior High is having to change your uniforms every game

to try to get your junior high mentality players to get excited about playing.

Bama, and luckily Clemson, don't have to rely on gimmicks to win.

Glad Dabo cares about tradition.

Just a question for you...

If you put 10 helmets on a bench and told 10 players to go grab their own helmet. Do you think it would be easier to ID a helmet with your number on it or without? Just "axin"

I'll hang up and listen now....
