"sparse attendance" would frequently be an improvement at Wally Wade

article suggests beginning with Duke's notorious elitist BB attitude, which has contributed to its equally notorious fan FB apathy. Think of this: the new improvements will improve their seating capacity to 45,000. We were packing that type of crowd into DV when I was there in the 60's! The amazing fact is that Duke certainly has had a well-heeled alumni to support its football program, but that support has largely gone to its BB. Of course, winning will help, but I'm convinced the greatest obstacle will be fan indifference.

than NC State it seems.

Cutcliff appears to be a pretty good coach, which Duke has lacked for several years.

Clemson better not take the Duke game lightly or we will get beat.

Sure they are. And I am serious about getting my hair to grow back in. Problem is, neither one of us are going to be very successful.

Duke will never be perenniel contenders, but they certainly have been getting better and are in a location where they will get more fans to show up if they win more games.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No reason that they can't be as good as Vanderbilt and win

Oct 5, 2012, 8:41 AM

6-7 games every year. If your a 3 star prospect you can go to Duke start, get a diploma from Duke, and play in a BCS conference. If they have good facilities and good coaches, why would you go to a mid major program like ECU etc.?

UVA. They will have an opportunity to win another game or two.

Maybe, Sort of.

Cutliffe is a good coach and if they give him the facilities, he might build Duke into a mid-tier team eventually.

I also seem to remember reading that a few well-placed and well-funded Duke alumni are extremely interested in seeing Duke produce quality football. So this is not completely university-driven; there are some significant booster dollars specifically devoted to football.

Taking the track out is a start. Even so, their new stadium look will never be intimidating and you'll still probably be able to have a conversation with someone on the other side of the 50.
