Liu Earns Ranked Win as Tigers Cruise Past No. 43 Liberty

Clemson, S.C. -- (release) In the first meeting between the two programs since 2004, Clemson (8-13, 1-10 ACC) downed No. 43 Liberty (17-7, 6-0 ASUN), 6-1, on Tuesday afternoon, snapping a four match skid for the Tigers. It marks Clemson's first ranked win since April 15, 2016 (No. 64 Duke) and its highest since March 11, 2016 (No. 38 Notre Dame). In the match, Yizhou Liu picked up his first career win over a ranked opponent and Robbie Weiss notched his first ranked win as Clemson's head coach.

After dropping the Court 3 doubles decision, 2-6, the Tigers secured the doubles point with 6-3 and 7-6 (7-3) victories at lines one and two, respectively. With the doubles point secured, Clemson never looked back. At No. 6 Spencer Whitaker downed his opponent, 6-1, 6-4. Teodor Giusca followed closely behind with a 6-3, 6-2 win on Court 4. Jorge Plans Gonzalez delivered the match clincher at line five, winning 7-5, 6-2. Following the clinch, Carlos Kelaidis won, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 2 and Liu finished off the match with a victory over No. 80 Nicaise Muamba, 6-4, 6-4.
