CLEMSON, S.C. — (release) In its final regular-season contest, the Clemson Volleyball team defeated Virginia Tech in four sets (25-19, 21-25, 25-19, 25-17) in Jervey Gym Saturday evening. Clemson freshman outside hitter Camryn Hannah and junior right side Solei Thomas guided the Tigers to their 12th victory of the season. Hannah posted a match-high 20 kills and hit .395, while Thomas concluded her junior campaign with a season-high 18 kills and hit .560.

Clemson also received strong performances from freshman middle blocker Colleen Finney and sophomore setter Mckenna Slavik. Finney registered a season-high seven blocks, including three solos, along with nine kills. Slavik dished out a match-high 38 assists and dug 16 Hokie attacks, just one dig shy of her career best.

With the win, Clemson concluded its 2020 season with an overall record of 12-10 and was 6-10 in ACC matchups. Virginia Tech (6-11, 5-11 ACC) also closed out its season on Saturday.

Both teams were knotted at 12-12 in the opening set, but Clemson outscored the Hokies 13-7 in the final 20 plays of the set to win it, 25-19. Hannah posted five of her 20 total kills in game No. 1 on just six swings with no errors. Finney and Thomas also added four kills each. Set No. 1 saw plenty of fluid offense as Clemson hit .538, while the Hokies hit .345.

Virginia Tech evened the match 1-1 after earning the game two win 25-21 as the Hokies’ five unanswered points early in the set proved to be the difference. After registering just three errors in the opening set, the Tigers were guilty of seven in the second.

Coming out of the break, Hannah continued to stay hot as the true freshman posted seven kills in the third frame, including four in the Tigers’ 7-3 run to close out the set. Clemson took game No. 3, 25-19, with ease. Clemson libero Caitlyn Meeks (7) and setter Mckenna Slavik (6) combined for 13 digs.

The Tigers carried their momentum into the fourth and final game, utilizing a 9-4 run in the middle of the set to help pull away and seal the match. Clemson claimed the match on a service ace from freshman outside hitter Cate Long, who fittingly led the Tigers in aces per set all season long.

Long finished Saturday’s match with nine kills and nine digs.
