Clemson's cheer team wins National Championship

by -

CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson earned its first-ever Spirit Squad National Championship in the Advanced All-Girl Division I Finals on Saturday, as the Tigers totaled a score of 96.50. Clemson competed in the Virtual College Nationals section of the 2021 NCA & NDA Collegiate Cheer & Dance Championship, which took place in Daytona Beach, Fla. this week. Clemson finished ahead of Cal Baptist and UNH in the virtual category.

The team gathered at the Poe Indoor Football Facility to watch the awards show, which aired virtually on Saturday.

The Tigers’ All-Girl score of 96.50 was higher than Louisville’s 95.5458, which led all schools who competed on-site in the Cheer Advanced All-Girl division. That competition included Mizzou, South Carolina, Iowa State and Oklahoma State. Clemson submitted virtual entries in the NCA (Cheer) Advanced All Girl Division IA category, the NCA (Cheer) Game Day division, and the NDA (Dance) Jazz Division IA, earning top-four finishes in each.

“We are so proud of our teams for how they pulled together during this challenging year,” said Spirit Squad Coordinator Tori Polsinello, who coaches the cheer teams. “It was very important for our team to be able to work toward this goal. This is a testament to all of the hard work that our team has put in and we are proud to represent Clemson on a national level.”

The Rally Cats, coached by Eryn Lee, finished fourth of eight virtual entries in the Virtual Dance Jazz Division IA event. The Game Day Cheer squad earned a fourth-place finish as well.

Results by event:

Game Day: 4th Place

All Girl: 1st Place

Rally Cats: 4th Place
