WR recruits since 2019

I was curious about the talent and depth the last few years. My thought was that we've been snake bit with injuries and possibly some bad evaluations.

We haven't had a really good year WR recruiting wise since 2017 (Tee Higgins & Amari Rodgers).

The jury is still out on some of these classes, but, there is still plenty of talent there. Just need everyone to stay healthy so they can play, practice and improve. Sadly, unless Ngata & EJ Williams stay healthy, we're going to be very young on experience at Wide receiver.

Year (Star ranking per 247) - National Rank at Position

2022
Antonio Williams (4*) - National rank: 9
Adam Randall (4*) - National rank: 17 - Tore ACL in Spring.
Cole Turner (3*) - National rank: 180

2021
Beaux Collins (4*) - National rank: 12
Troy Stellato (4*) - National rank: 30 - Bad hamstring/ Bone bruise in heel.
Dacari Collins (4*) - National rank: 32
Will Taylor (3*) - National rank: 93 (Athlete, not WR) - Tore ACL.

2020
E.J. Williams (4*) - National rank: 13 - Several injuries.
Ajou Ajou (3*) - National rank: 66 - Transferred

2019
Frank Ladson (4*) - National rank: 7 - Lots of Injuries & transferred.
Joe Ngata (4*) - National rank: 9 - Lots of Injuries
Brannon Spector (3*) - National rank: 60 - Injured/COVID

Sadly, the same could be said for other positions. Injuries are killers.

The obvious question is this:

What changed with our strength and conditioning program and/or practice routine which might have contributed to a much higher than normal rate of injuries recently?

Sure, it could just be a coincidence; a case of “bad luck.” But what if it isn’t?

Judge Keller - someone posted a link about the turf Clemson has installed at the indoor facility possibly being a link.
I think they went back and looked at injuries before we had it; compared to after for skill position players only(WR, CB, S, RB, QB, TE). Although; they are all skill players to me.

Seemed like some compelling stats that linked the turf to the injuries! I'm sorry; I don't have the link; but perhaps you recall it?

"Compelling" but nothing concrete obviously. I know we have a good staff who have won aclaim for their knowledge. So, in short, I don't know.
Let's hope it was just a run of bad luck!

Thanks, I didn’t see that but will try to find it.

Injuries are largely luck. You can do everything right and still get injured (whether overuse or accident).

Then sometimes you can do no wrong.

Sadly, luck is very much in play when it comes to recruiting a player that may or may not be prone to injury, or just plan injuries from games or practice.

That many in one season though! Does raise some questions, at least! I think you are 100% correct TigerCC - but the volume of injuries in one season was likely unprecidented in Tigers football history, no?

I seem to remember in the early 2000's where we had a spell

of broken feet and everyone was blaming the strength an conditioning. Not sure we ever figured out what it was but sometimes I think it is just bad luck!

Turner and Taylor - I have no doubt they will outperform their star rating! None. Zilch. Zero-doubt about it.

If any of you haven't: "go look at his video"! I see a kid that's fast and athletic and has really nice hands. And, he wants to make plays. Like; he is a grinder - let me at it guy. He's supposedly faster than Nolan and Nolan "ran an average of 4.44 for NFL scouts"!

Good Post!

The WR room as you said, "just needs to stay healthy more than anything"!

Take it back to Amari Rodgers and his injury!
Mike Williams. Although we all saw what happened with him(unfortunate too b/c with him I think we beat Bama in 2015).

Ngata and Williams are the two I am hoping/praying have the biggest breakout years! The Collins cousins(not really cousins) were pressed into action far too early; but that should have served as a positive going into the offseason for their confidence. They both now have a little over a year as well in a college strength/conditioning/speed program so I can't wait to see what they bring.

Antonio Williams and Adam Randall are ballers. Randall reminds me of Mike Williams. Antonio Williams is a Steve Smith with the Carolina Panthers clone; but taller! We have something special with those two.

Raising a glass(of a wet substance you drink) to the sky; praying for good health mental/physical for our entire football team this season!
