The supply of football coaches capable of winning at this level exceeds the supply. In the hope that you (a collage) have found one, you pay them crazy amounts. It's kinda like Fortune 500 CEOs that make much more and less than 1 in 3 succeed. HOWEVER... if they DO succeed, you've hit the jackpot.

Very few of us come close to having skills in such demand.

Once under contract they really can't fail, unless they fail ethically.

Don't resign and you're going to get bought out to the tune of millions, worst case.

That's enough to change your life forever if nothing else happens.

Can't imagine how much Butch Jones enjoyed getting a check for 250k a month from UT for 3 years straight.
