Why Not Let Sammy Play Both Sides of the Ball?

Why Not Let Sammy Play Both Sides of the Ball?

With Mafah injured and our run game needing a spark, I think it’s worth considering Sammy as a potential option at running back. Hear me out:

1. Sammy’s Background as an RB: Sammy excelled as a running back in high school. He’s no stranger to the position and understands how to find holes, make cuts, and grind out tough yards. That experience could translate well to the college game, especially since he’s already proven himself as an elite athlete in the LB position.
2. Our Current Situation: With Mafah hurt, we’re down a crucial piece of the offense. The run game has been inconsistent, and adding Sammy could provide a much-needed boost. His size, strength, and athleticism are perfect for tough runs, especially in short-yardage or goal-line situations.
3. Versatility Is a Strength: In today’s game, more players are stepping up in multiple roles when needed. Look at Travis Hunter at Colorado, who plays on both sides of the ball. If a player like Sammy is capable, why not use him as a weapon to keep

Because we are thin at LB.***

We should not let that make us thin on brains as well...we need a RB...we have several great ones at linebacker already...Sammy was a great RB in HS...he would not have to be trained and he is large and somewhat fast...for some of you that should be a no brainer...others take longer! You have to ask yourself...what would Dabo do?

What would Dabo do? He's already doing it - NOT playing Sammy on offense. That is a no-brainer. We need him on D. He tears an ACL then what are you going to say? Everybody on this board would be calling it a DUMB DABO DECISION BECAUSE IT WOULD BE.

Yep, he gets dinged running the ball and we’re screwed on D …

Because it makes no sense to take your best tackler and put him at RB.

I mean, do people actually use logic when they post? Lol.

He is not our best tackle or linebacker...he has been running around sniffing butts and learning the position all year! Now you know why Herschel was not a linebacker!

You obviously know nothing about football or you’re blind. He most certainly is our best LB and tackler.

Yeah you’re either a troll or just ignorant to football knowledge.

Sammy Brown is easily the best tackler on the team.

You clearly have no clue how difficult it is to learn an offense playbook and run the plays

Great idea. Take a guy who has not been practicing at RB, does not know the blocking schemes, is critical to our defense, and stick him in on offense for the first time in a playoff game.

Obviously you have no clue about their practices. He takes snaps from time to time.

That's not a good idea.

While Sammy was a very good RB in HS, he hasn't even been getting snaps in practice (as far as I know). Without serious reps at RB, there is too much rust in the area of snap counts, check-down calls, set alignments, basic handoffs, pass route adjustments, pass-pro and blocking technique that could make for a disastrous outing.

OTOH, he could be a game-changer.... but it's not worth the risk unless he gets some work in practice to knock the rust off.

I have been thinking the same thing. They need to use him every once in a while on short yardage. Let him gash the D a few times then put him out as a decoy and throw the ball deep. Sammy is tough and he is first and foremost a football player and his job now as a paid athlete is to help his team anywhere he can! Perfect point! Charles Woodson, Travis Hunter and may others have contributed this way. Anyone who disagrees is drinking to much of the the overrated Riley koolaid!
