Why is Vanderbilt in the SEC?

Why are they in major college football? I only watched the last 1:36 and saw Usuck easily drive 75 yards for the winning score, Vandy allow the ensuing kickoff to roll all the way down to their 10 yard line, and then fumbling the ball away on the next play to finish the game. Wow. Great SEC football.
