Why do we run fake zone reads?

If you're going to run the play, the QB needs to make the read.

We run what looks like a zone read, the defensive end crashes down unblocked, but we always hand it to the RB regardless. For that play to work, the QB needs to pull the ball when the DE crashes, but we never do that.

Yep. At least half the time on those plays the QB either would have had a large gain or waltzed into the endzone.

That's all on the QB. It's his decision to keep the ball or hand it off. DJ is reading the D end wrong.

DJ needs to see Puma do it in a few meaningful series. I think that will settle him down. He’s trying to be perfect. He needs to play loose and let it go.
