Who was really to blame?

Nov 28, 2022, 11:21 PM

Watching the condensed version again. DJ actually looked pretty good out of the gate. Then I see this pass play. So this was one of his incompletions and almost a pick 6. All the receivers have one guy covering including the RB out of the backfield. Looks like Spector and Collins ran into each other and ended up side by side, thus causing the almost INT.

Why couldn’t our WR’s ever get open? Seems like many other teams have no problem with that. Each of our receivers in this pic is wearing a defender like a blanket. Receivers that can’t get open combined with an OL that can’t hold pass blocks equals DJ mistakes and sacks.

Why were two receivers in the exact same spot?

Why couldn’t Streeter scheme better for a defense that was begging to be passed against?

Yes DJ ended up with some bad stats and some passes were clearly off. However he is very much a momentum player. Did he lose whatever confidence he had after stuff like this? Maybe that’s why Streeter was so defensive afterward because he knew he and Grisham deserved a lot of the blame.

Maybe it’s just all of the above. Why was DJ throwing to the two guys bunched together and were both short of the line to gain? If we could solve our downfield passing issues it would go a LONG way to getting the program back on track.

Blame fans, as we misinterpreted what right looks like.

This is a 10 win team. So obviously there’s nothing to see really, just another day of best is the standard.

I get it but our defense isn’t that bad and our running game is pretty consistent and has depth. I’m watching more of these passing downs and our OL was just pitiful. 3 secs max. Not a good combo with receivers who can’t run routes or gain separation. Best pass play I saw was TD to A Williams and it was a nice rub play that left him wide open. Where was more of that? Where were the TE’s? Instead I see WR’s running fly routes on 3rd and 6’s. It’s like somebody told them they need to run some route so they just pick one. No rhyme, reason, or effort.

Route trees (and their proper timing) have been abysmal.***
