Louisville averages 449 yards on offense and they got 450 last night. We average 485 and got 366 last night so there is enough blame to go around because these were not winning numbers on either side of the ball.

our defensive scheme is not good. Linebackers were out of position on several of the long runs ,cornerbacks playing to for off , 3 man rush isn’t effective if we are in the zone defense it just gives the qb time to pick us apart, we don’t blitz enough for me. Seems to Wes is trying to play an NFL defense the okd bend but don’t broke attitude. We bent and broke last night. Just an opinion from an high school defensive ball coach.

Linebackers out of position all year. Gap integrity is horrible. Recognition isn’t there, wheel routes and tight ends running uncovered. He also loves going to a soft zone on third and long. A sort of prevent defense. It prevents us from getting off the field on third down.
Clemson total defense ranks since 2021: 2021 2 (BV last season) 2022 22 2023 32 2024 68 on pace for triple digits ranking.
That tells the full story. Regardless of personnel. It’s the d coordinators job to field the best team and recruit the best talent fit. It isn’t happening.

You’re wrong Clemson got 450 yards of offense. Louisville had 300 something. Yards don’t matter. Tackling and rush defense is atrocious. Louisville was running out the clock and playing conservative in the 2nd half.

Attitude reflects leadership. Venables was in shape, fiery, aggressive, and expected perfection.
Wes is fat, laid back, timid, and makes excuses.

You could argue part of the problem is that we don't have enough depth at LB to play a 4-3, so we are forced to play a 4-2-5 with the only decent LB backup being Sammy. We obviously don't have enough depth at LB to play a 3-4 which could cover for our lack of depth on the D line.
And then we don't have depth at DE. PWoo checked himself out of the game b/c he doesn't want to be cut blocked making our glaring lack of depth at DE even more obvious. They will say he is 'hurt', but what I saw on TV is a guy who checked himself out of the game b/c he didn't want to be cut blocked.
Our D line was made to look like a junior varsity high school team by an O line that was playing with mostly back-ups.
How we have not solved the field goal-kicking protection by now is the most mind-boggling part.

Then one would argue that talent acquisition and development is the root of that problem.

portal and not replace them. All the talk about the players we lose don't matter is a bunch of BS. Having vonta bentley at LB and swint at DE would be a huge help right now. Just think if we had picked up the DE from Georgia tech that that gamecocks got. Having a pass rush would make a world of difference.

I'm actually much more disappointed in the offense than the defense....Wes' D carried Riley's anemic offense all last season.
When is Garrett Riley going to pick up his end of the couch?

We are no longer DLU That much is clear.
I said weeks ago the core of what is wrong with our D is Dline.
Everybody was excited with the hires of Eason and Rumph. We thought we knocked it out of the park.
FF to now and we haven't gotten pressure on the QB all year.
What had always been a stalwart of Clemson football is our opponents fearing our D line.
We usually ranked in the top 5 or so in TFL and sacks.
Just like our Oline Kickstarted our offense , poor Dline Play negatively affects all facets of our defense.
This must change.
