I’ve been saying that since the spring, that we definitely needed to find a shifty, quick Shipley type of player to be a change up for tempo and be a receiving threat to catch those quick release passes and turn them into chunk yards. We basically lost all that type of production that we got from Shipley and it hasn’t been replaced . Mafah, is a solid back for what he is , but he’s just too slow against quality defenders. Heck, he even struggled in short yardage because he’s too slow getting into the hole.

It’s an obvious missing element- even these NFL teams are going with a two back mix it up approach, Mafah is great in his element, but look at the back from Louisville last night and imagine him being a change of pace back in our offense…

And by the way, how much of Mafah yardage was garbage yardage when Louisville was in a bend and make us have long drives type of defense when they were up 3 scores-

He did have 171 yds. 🤦🏻‍♂️ Problem is , most of that was after we were 3 scores down and they were dropping more people into coverage and giving us the runs.

I still don’t understand not having the QB under center on short yardage so the back can hit a hole with momentum. Running out of the gun gives defenders time to penetrate and we see it happen game after game. 😩

Amen to that- you need one yard and snap it 5 yards deep is something all the college teams are doing now that’s not really good sense
